Water only will not work as the coolant temperature goes above the boiling point, you need a misture of half and half water and antifreeze and a good rad cap

I have a 99 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 L that's been overheating I change the water pump the thermostat and I took it for a test drive in about 10 minutes into the ride is started overheating so I pulled it to...

You presumably filled the cooling system before going for the test drive. You say there is no leaks yet there was room for more antifreeze.

If this is true the room for more antifreeze must have been created by the overheating and probably overheating was a gross understatement, boiling perhaps - or because the head gasket is failing or failed.

Severe overheating can have far reaching effects from burning away the cylinder lubrication and robbing an engine of compression to softening valve springs and piston rings. Assessing the damage caused by overheating can be a lengthy process - you might be lucky or you might not.

I suggest you begin with a compression test...

SUBARU OUTBACK LEGACY estate car 2003 OVER HEATING TO THE POINT USES UP ALL THE WATER IN THE RADIATOR AFTER PROBABLY 20 MILES ?

putting water in a radiator will not work... water boils away quickly. You need to put antifreeze in it instead. If you are not sure how to do this ask a trusted friend or reliable mechanic

Car is overheating while idling.

Your radiator fan is probably failed. Pop open hood, watch temp rise, once past "normal " level teh fan should turn on. If not, you need to trouble shoot the rad fan. There should be heavy duty fuses and relays under the hood in an electrical distribution box. You should consult the owners manual or chart on the box lid. Of course the fan maybe bad itself. You can also try - turn on the AC, this will activate the 2nd (booster) fan, and should help prevent serious overheating but wont fix the underlying problem.
Good luck

SOUND LIKE BAD THERMOSTAT REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP..BUT YOU NEED TO MIX 50/50 MIXTURE OF ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN THE COOLING SYSTEM TO RAISE BOILING TO KEEP CAR FROM OVERHEATING.

MY CAR IS OVERHEATING. HOW CAN I KNOW IF IT HAS AIR LOCK IN THE COOLING SYSTEM AND HOW CAN I FIX IT???? THANKS

Be sure to turn heater on full during filling. You can tell about air by pressure testing the system.

Also, you must that the correct type and volume of antifreeze or unit will not cool properly.

What. exactly do you mean by overheating? Boiling water out? Fans on too much...?

My 2002 mondeo ghia is overheating and the fan is not kicking in, aso have to fill water bottle at least twice a day

Have your belt(s) checked for tightness, have your water pump checked, replace the thermostat and ALWAYS keep enough antifreeze in the system to protect it to 20° below zero. It is also anti-boil.

Car is still overheating after new thermostat, new housing.....

bleed air out cooling system. put half antifreeze and half water .if you got too much water .it willl cause engine to over heat. antifreeze raise boiling point .220 degrees it wont boil away . water will evaporate 212 degrees.it will boil away .causing low coolant problems and over heating.

Were are the sensors for the engine fans in a nissaan sentra gxe

One of the common things that gets missed at times is the radiator is down in cooling antifreeze. The car will act as normal during the warm up cycle and then the temperature guage will rise and then it will slowly come back down as the thermostat opens and/or the electric cooling fans come on. In actuality the engine is overheating, but it is not boiling over. The level of abtifreeze is at just the right level of lowness that you experience this phenomenon. After the engine cools off , (DO NOT REMOVE WHEN HOT - YOU CAN GET SCALDED WITH BOILING WATER/ANTIFREEZE)), remove the radiator cap and check the level within the radiator and also the antifreeze reservoir level. You can buy a 50-50 mix of antifreeze and water that is ready to put into the radiator. If the level in both the radiator and reservoir are correct, you may have a bad thermostat or some other problem.
