Hi this sounds like you fuel to air mix, and can be adjusted by a screw type knob at the side of the engine, turn this until it idles at about 1000 rpm, ( that's if your motorcycle is a 500cc or more) if this does not cure it, then the carburettor will have to be balanced...hope this helps
ok i have loads of things for you to check i will just list ok
tank breather line
air filter clogged, poorly seated, missing, or airfilter housing not fitted correctly clamps loose
intake manifold leaking in air, or loose
pilot screws out of adjustment
air bleed holes clogged
throttle shaft to carburettor body clearance excessive
carburettor jets clogged
these are the things that will cause the problem you have i do not know what make or modle or year or cc of your bike so realy these are just universal faults, if you could post the information i might be able to help more indepth, as some faults could be fuel pump, ok

steve ,soon as I take the choke off it will not rev up.it just dies,tried the air mixture screw doesn't do any good.
