There's a gland nut that holds the petcock into the tank and pulls it up against the seal. Try tightening the nut. But, in all probability, it's the vacuum diaphragm in the backside of the petcock.

Harley went to a vacuum operated petcock in 1996 and they've been a pain ever since. The diaphragm gets a small hole in it and leaks gasoline or quits opening leaving the rider stranded.

Now, You can repair the petcock if you wish. Get a large funnel and an empty gasoline can. Loosen the petcock and allow the fuel to run out around the nut, catching it in the funnel and directing it into the gas can. Once empty, take the fuel line and the vacuum line off the petcock. The vacuum line is the small line on the backside. Take the petcock out of the tank. Look on the backside and there are four small screws. Take them out and carefully take the back plate off the valve. You'll see a diaphragm, a spring, and needle. Take the diaphragm and hold it up to the light and gently stretch it. You'll probably find a hole. You can get a replacement diaphragm from you local dealer. Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

Personally, I'd rather replace the vacuum operated petcock with a high quality manually operated petcock such as Pingel. The OEM petcock will fail on you and leave you stranded with a full fuel tank and an empty carburetor. The Pingle won't. Just install it, connect the fuel hose, and plug the vacuum hose.

Good Luck
Steve

I have a 6 gal 150 psi pancake compressor, once in awhile their is a leak under the cover emptying the tank . I can restart and no leak until it happens again. any idears?

Any leak under the cover after compressor shuts off is caused by the in-tank check valve. Follow the discharge airline to where it attaches to the tank. This connection is the check valve. Debris from the pump cycle (bits of piston ring) will get trapped under the valve keeping it open. Good luck

Gas leaking from the vent tube on the gas tank

The standpipe sits in the tank and connects the filter "sock". The only vents, or overflows, should either be from the carburetors (overflow) or vacuum vent (typically found on dirt bikes) on gas lid. You should have no lines that directly "vent" from the tank. It is possible you have the wrong tank installed on the bike. Just a suggestion. ^^ I hope this helps.

Gas leak from carburetor into bottom of air intake elbow. Filled empty gas tank and within seconds after opening the shutoff valve under tank, gas started to drip from bottom of intake elbow. Shut off the...

It sounds like the needle valve in the carburetor is not seating properly to shut off the fuel. A badly worn needle or dirt/debris in the needle seat area can cause this. Disassembly of the carb and a good cleaning will be required.

Bike runs when you pour gas in carburetor but won't pull from the tank, there is gas in the tube that feeds the carbs.

two things. could be that peacock is plugged or there is sometimes a vacumm on the peacock coming from the carbs that sucks the peacock open allowing fuel to flow from the tank. if that hose has a hole in it it will not open the peacock. hope this helps.

My 1974 kawasaki ke 125 is leaking gas out the bottom of the engine. what is wrong with it?

Several things could be wrong. First, the fuel petcock (valve) at the bottom of the gas tank should be turned off when the bike is not being ridden. Also, it is possible the valve may not be fully shutting off the gas. This can allow the carb to overflow and leak gas. A stuck open or punctured float in the carb bowl can cause overflow. The float should be light as a feather and have nothing inside it but air. Is the carb securely mounted?

Check for cracked fuel hose or bad connections at the tank and carb. Is the fuel valve body leaking gas where it mounts to the tank? Heck, with the bike being 36 years old the tank may be leaking at a weld or due to rust through. I wish I could work on your bike. The older bikes are more fun to work on than the newer bikes. Post a reply and let me know what you find.

Gas not coming out enough; flame not catching on to other burners

Problem: Low flames on grill, tank is full.

Cause: These newer tanks have a device inside that limits the flow of gas to prevent leaking or accidental discharge of gas from the cylinder. The leak detector mechanism inside the tank shuts off the gas whenever the valve is opened rapidly.

Solution:
Close the tank valve and remove the tank. Check the gas line for ANY object that could cause blockage. Open all valves on the grill to eliminate any pressure whatsoever. Close all valves and reattach tank. SLOWLY open the tank not over 2 turns. Check for leaks. I just open my tank a tiny bit but that is just me.

This late model gas grill service manual has more details on page 13.

Gas not getting to grill

Two things could be wrong. Tank valve could be bad, not allowing gas to flow. Or regulator could be bad not allowing gas to pass. Try taking the tank off and pushing a screwdriver into the end of it with the tank open, if gas doesn't come out tank valve is bad, valve has a spring in it to shut down if starts leaking. If tank valve is good regulator must be bad. I am leaning more towards to the tank valve.

I have a culligan softminder twin system that is releasing salt and water onto the floor also the sytem does not seem to be cycling thru correctly and the water is not coming out pure it is discolored and...

Check the salt tank too see if it is overflowing. There could also be a crack in the bottom of the brine tank causing it to leak. You need to determine where the leak is coming from. Many times water is leaking from the valve, running down the tank and collecting under/around the salt tank. As far as not cycling make sure the meter cable is plugged in, power to unit, etc. The valve may not be switching tanks, there can be many causes for this. Bottom line is By-Pass the softener until a service tech can come out. These Culligan twin tank systems (9000,9100,8500, Twin-Flo) are actually fleck valves so any water treatment dealer that sells/services Fleck valves can repair this system.
