Is the only way to fill the coolant for my Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 is by the small cap near the passengers right foot peg?

I filled my radiator with coolant by removing the cover on the right side of the gas tank just behind the handle bars. When you remove the cover, you will see the radiator cap. Remove the cap and begin filling with the appropriate coolant.

WHERE DO I CHECK COOLANT LEVEL AT?

Follow the upper radiator hose, there is a radiator cap on the right side. With the motor cold take off the radiator cap and make sure the radiator is full at that point. It is important that you fill the radiator at the cap/high point of the system, because the total volume of antifreeze in the motorcycles system may not have enough vacuum to draw the fluid all the way up from the over flow bottle and you will have cooling problems. The Shadows tend to run on the warm side any way with out the extra assistance of a low fluid level. Then find the over flow tank located near the right driver foot peg and fill it to the full mark. Use only no silica formula antifreeze like Honda or GM Dexcool , the scrubbing particles in automotive antifreeze can damage the ceramic seal in you motorcycle water pump. After your initial drive and a cool down period , recheck the level in the over flow bottle and top up as needed.

2001 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100, Going to look at one tomorow. 14k miles, *New Tires *Windsheild *Crash bar *Chrome pegs *Floor boards *Saddle bags *Passenger backrest *Chrome lugage rack, asking 3500.00...

Here is the "Blue Book"
http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/trade-in/2001/honda/vt1100c2-shadow-1100-sabre/238203

Seems to be a bit over priced. I would ask the owner straight up why he is asking over $1,200 more than blue book value. (add ons? )
Also call your insurance agent and ask them what the full coverage replacement value is.

Are there maintenance records?
Has it ever been in an accident?
Why the new windshield with only 14 K miles?
Owner's manual with the bike?
When was it last registered?
Exhaust pipes chrome or Dark Blue? Dark Blue = been run hot or high RPM for extended period
What color is the engine and transmission oil? Does it smell like oil or have a burned smell?

Last thing to keep in mind... is ask yourself.. 14 K miles or 114K miles? While your looking at it. Title in the persons name that is selling you the bike?

There are many many more things to consider...including your own driving experience. There are 2 kinds of motorcycles......
Those that have been DOWN
and Those that are waiting to go Down. Either from falling off a foot rest or accidents. I have owned many motorcycles since 1970. Every motorcycle has their own story to tell... some good, some bad.

How to check water level for my 2002 honda shadow sabre

the easiest way to see the coolant level is to shine a flash light up from underneth the plastic tank, located between the the engine and rear tire. now follow the fillcap located above the right side passenger foot peg. there will be a vertical one inch slot in a chrome cover. behind this slot are two very faint lines . one low, one high about a half inch apart. I found that carefully tilting the bike to the right makes it easy to see just how low the coolant is. a really small diameter piece of tubeing jammed into a tiny funnel will prevent a mess when topping off.

Where is the radiator drain plug for a 2002 honda shadow sabre

This is correct. I just changed my coolant on my 2002 1100 Sabre and all you have to do is disconnect the lower radiator hose and drain all of the fluid out, flush with fresh water, then reconnect and fill with appropriate coolant.

Coolant type

That bike came from the factory with regular green antifreeze/coolant mixed 50/50 with distilled water. You can get it pretty much anywhere that sells automotive products.

The only way it should be anything other than that would be if someone has changed it over, which is rare.
