radiator fan switch ???? has relays ,high speed cooling fan relay an engine cooling fan relay an a cooling fan resistor . A coolant temp. sensor . The temp sensor is a input to the PCM - engine computer ,when temp gets to hot the PCM energizes the relays . There is no radiator fan switch . Videos on youtube .
http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html check out wiring diagram here .
check that you have a thermal switch to switch on the fan and not a temp sender unit. One completes the curcuit when a set temp is reached ,the other is a resistance unit that lowers the voltage which in turn reads hotter on the gauge.
Just a thought, some makes and models, if you unplug the coolant temp sensor, the fan/s may run? I believe it to be a default setting incase the pcm doesn't see the signal from coolant temp sensor. Any applicable trouble codes? Do you want a wiring diagram for radiator fan?
actually, the ECM directing the sensor to actuate the switches. the engine thermostat is the actuator of the fans in the cooling system. and its located in the oulet port of the engine where the upper radiator hose is connected. (and or at the lower rad hose, some design on VWs).
You have two fan's on your truck, 1 is a fan clutch runs with the drive belt, 2 elec fan motor, with test light and engine running at normal temp, just a little bit above 1/2 way on your temp gauge check voltage at elec. cooling fan harness if you have voltage at one of the two wire's and fan don't turn on, bad cooling fan motor, on the fan clutch after you check voltage at elec. fan motor turn engine off, with your hand spin drive belt fan if it spin's freely bad fan clutch, replace it.Also check cooling level.Hope this was very helpful
The fans are actuated by coolant temp in the radiator. It is possible to have overheated coolant in the radiator, causing the steam, and your engine not overheating...the temp sensor for your engine is reflecting the engine temp, not the temp of the coolant in the radiator. You problem could be a bad temp sensor at the radiator...not allowing the fans to come on. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!
the electric cooling fan for the radiator will not turn on when the engine reaches normal operating temp, its only supposed to come on if the engine temp goes over the normal temp. (around 220 degrees) it is normal for the fan to come on any time the a/c or defroster is turned on.
This vehicle has a radiator fan switch, it completes the circuit when the water temp get up to N.O.T normal operating temperature and turn the fans on, try changing radiator fan switch. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
