Seems to me that it takes a special tool to maintain the alignment of the lock when you take it out. I'm not sure. I'd advise calling a dealer and talking with the service department.

Good luck
steve

Fork lock may be seized. Try spraying a little WD40 on it. Not on ignition switch but where lock engages on fork yokes.

2008 fxdl lowrider lost key and forks locked any way to unlock got new after market switch to install

Simplest way is to go to a dealer, give him the VIN number and get the correct key to fit both lock and ignition switch. A new set of keys is cheaper than a steering lock and ignition key, even aftermarket ones.

Remove ignition 1996 Honda Shadow 1100

Remove the top yoke/ fork clamp nut and clamp bolts, then the handle bar clamps, remove circlips from fork tops if it has any (remove fork caps if their diameter is larger the that of the fork tubes leave if thay are the same) slide the top yoke off past steering lock unclip switch wiring coupler.
The ignition switch will probably be in with saftey screws or snap off saftey torque bolts, remove with saftey screw tool or drill off toqure bolts

Fork lock locked up won't unlock

I don't know if this will help. It was sent to me by a friend of mine and I've never tried the procedure. I do not work on these ignition switches and fork locks. This is for a newer model but it may help. Good Luck. Steve

Here's the procedure to remove the IGNITION /LIGHT KEY SWITCH AND FORK LOCK for a 2005 FLHT/C/U or FLTR (Domestic): Tools needed for removing ignition switch A T27 Torx, a small flat blade screwdriver, 7/8 wrench.

1. Remove the outer fairing and windshield

2. To remove the ignition switch, insert the ignition switch key and turn to the UNLOCK position. Leaving the key installed, rotate the knob to ACCESS. Depressing the release button at bottom (left side) with a small screwdriver, push key down and turn an additional 60 degrees in a counter-clockwise direction. Lift and remove knob.

3. Using a 7/8 wrench on flats, loosen switch nut and remove from threaded post of ignition switch housing. Remove collar and spacer.

4. Using a T27 TORX drive head, remove the two screws (with flat washers) that secure fairing cap to left and right sides of fairing.

5. Remove the switch position plate by pulling tabs from slots in faring cap. If necessary, raise the fairing cap slightly to facilitate removal.

6. With the forks turned fully to the left, disconnect the Fairing cap switch connector (105) 12-place Multilock (black), from behind right side of fairing cap. Depress the button on the plus side of the connector to pull apart the pin and socket halves.

7. Remove the fairing cap from the motorcycle.

8. Locate the ignition switch connector (33), 4-place Packard, at bottom of radio. Slide connector off anchor and separate pin and socket halves.
9. Remove the socket screws (with flat washers) and lift the switch housing from the upper fork bracket bore. Route the ignition switch connector to rear of inner fairing and remove switch housing from the vehicle.

I am having trouble changing the fork lock on my 2000 heritage soft tail.My ignition switch went bad so I bought a kit from my HD dealer. The kit came with switch, plastic plug, and fork lock. I changed...

Ok, this is what the service manual says.

1. Loosen upper triple clamp pinch bolts. Remove upper triple clamp and handlebars.
2. Loosen fork stem bolt. Let fork stem drop approx. 5 inches. (127mm)

On the left side of the steering stem there is a "half-moon" indentation that has been machined into the steering stem for the lock. Let steering stem drop until this indentation is in full view.

3. Use a scribe and remove lead plug.
4. Unscrew set screw
5. Insert key in lock and turn partially
6. Wiggle lock and pull until enough of the lock comes out to get a grip with pliers or other suitable tool.
7. Rotate steering stem slightly, while pulling on lock until lock is removed.

Good Luck

Replace harley fork lock

The fork lock is part of the ignition switch assembly. You have to remove the swich (tricky little button under the switch with the switch in accessory position I think) after which you remove that lower inner fairing schroud that has your rear speaker, cruise, accessory, and passing lamp switches. then remove the lock. The lock has a harness that needs to be unplugged. I'm uncertian if the outer fairing needs to be removed to unplug. you will know when you go to unplug it.
