How do you reset caliper piston on the rear of a Pontiac G6 2006 car?

try to get it overhauled..because might be it has gone jammed due to dust clottings......else get it replaced due to severe risks of brakes jams

the rear calipers screw in on many poniac products. there should be a slot on the face of the piston for a special tool to turn them in, but i've used a pair of channel locks before.

The rear disk brake piston does not compress back into the caliper, it has notces on the caliper piston that a tool fits into and the caliper piston is actually turned or screwed back into the caliper, and a notch in the piston must also be aligned to fit the the small protrusion from the backing plate of the inner brake pad.

The brake tool can be obtained from most auto part stores, and it is usually square with protrusions sticking out from the sides in different patterns to fit various caliper pistons, and it usually attaches to a 3/8" drive extension and ratchet.

Do not compress this type of caliper piston because the caliper can damaged.

The rear brakes on the 2004 need to be compressed with a special tool available at any parts store. You need to "screw" the caliper piston in instead of pushing it in with the "C" clamp.

no that is only the older rear calipers on gm and others. the fronts do not have that style caliper and sound like the calipers are frozen and may be way your changing the pads. try opening the bleeder screw and then compressing them if they go then you need need brake hoses and if not you need calipers. god luck man

YOU WILL NEED A SPECIAL TOOL TO TURN THE PISTON BACK INTO THE CALIPER. TURN IT CLOCKWISE WHILE PUSHING INWARD ON THE PISTON.

remove the caliper bolt, swivel the caliper up and slide off the rod. To push the caliper piston in to accommodate the new pads, you must get the tool to TWIST the piston in while slightly pressing the piston. those calipers in the rear have slots on the piston right. that means you have to turn the pistons in clockwise. sometimes a pair of needle nose pliers put in the slots and turn will work, otherwise there is a rear caliper brake tool to turn those pistons in.

open the cap of the master cylinder. use a block of wood accross the piston and evenly push back the caliper.

On the rear calipers you need to screw the piston back into place. There is a tool nicknamed a rubik's cube. That will plug into the piston and you hook up a 3/8 inch ratchet and screw it back in while pushing inward. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WMR-W80621
