It sounds like a fuel problem.
first drian fuel out of tank.
i know you have already cleaned the carby but dis assemble carby and clean with carby cleaner.
re assemble carby & fill tank with fresh fuel.
also clean air filter & check oil level & check spark plug,if the spark plug is black and the tip is blocked with oil build up, then replace.

Wrong gas in lawn mower, what to do

Lawnmower wont start after running then stopped for short period

It should be. The fuel line is under the tank and runs to the carburetor. Make sure you use the fuel shut off, if you have one, or drain gas before you play with the line. Once you find the line disconnect it from the carb and drain any remaining fuel. Then clean with a pipe cleaner and reattach. That should help.

I have a 8 hp gx240 will star but wont stay running

These carbs are hard to clean up. They are fairly cheap to replace outright so I would suggest that as a fallback option.

I would check the float level and make sure the inlet needle for the float is clean and moving freely. It sounds like you are getting fuel at a slower rate than the engine needs to continuously run. You can also have restrictions upstream in the fuel valve, fuel filter or fuel pump. That should be easy to test. You just take the fuel line off the carb and crank the motor and collect the fuel. More than an ounce or two in 10-20 seconds of cranking would be good.

Be safe and good luck!

Honda lawnmower hru195 1 year old starts easliy with choke on but will not run with choke off

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

You have debis in the fuel float bowl. Remove the float bowl, clean the bowl and the bowl NUT, Shoot some carb cleaner up into the jet where the bowl nut threads into (center) and clean the orifice. Put it back together wait 30 seconds after turning on fuel or adding fuel and start the engine. If this does not work respond here and I will help you.
Make sure to include your ENGINE model number in your response.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I can't start my honda lawnmower, checked the oil, put new gas use choke,it gives litle sound but not enough to start

Try a touch of starting fluid right into the carburator by taking the air filter off. If it then starts but wont run or stay running, the reservoir below the carb should be removed to clean at and the pinhole in the intake tube above the bowl nut. This is the most common problem with lawnmower start problems, the pinhole can be unplugged with one wire from a wire brush. Be careful with the gas, at least pinch off the gas hose with a vise grips while removing the carb bowl.. Never use a droplight around gasoline. most lawnmowers have no mixture adjustments, so it is a matter of cleaning the carb, tank, gas lines. Some oils in gas mix systems settle and clog after less than one season. Spark can be tested by sight, remove the plug and use a clip-on ground wire from spark plug body to metal on the engine with the plug wire connected.

Honda push mower wont run right

I have the GVC160 motor....same problems....just found this info (see link),...and it turned out that Honda used a NGK spark plug that was defective,....I couldn't believe that is all it was...after changing the carb (new),...adjusting valves....etc.. I just went down and bought a new spark plug.....and it runs great!!
----
BEFORE go thru all of the advice and look at most other Honda web info.....go and buy a brand new spark plug and start with that! It appears Honda used a NGK spark plug in the past that fails after some time....giving the syptoms of problems with the carb, sticky valve, etc. Do not try to clean and use the old spark plug!! Check this out....it was the answer I was looking for after hours of work, reading, and talking to Honda dealers - http://forum.doityourself.com/outdoor-power-equipment-small-engines/261743-honda-lawnmower-starting-then-cutting-out.html

Honda gas powered lawn mower will not start

If it sat for years then its likely a fuel problem. Verify this by spraying a prime in the carb and trying to start it. If the unit starts then its a fuel problem. I would drain the tank and replace with fresh fuel, remove the carb and clean it.

I have a Brigs&Straton 6.5 Quantum lawnmower will not stay running. I can keep it running by restricting the amount of air entering the carb with my finger (choking it) The mower will start if it

the problem is in your carb.,at the bottem of the carb. there is a bolt that threads in to the carb.pinch off the fuel line so that no fuel comes out after the fuel bowl is off the mower.now look into the bolt that you took off.there should be a hole oppisit the head of the bolt.there are also two holes that go through the sides.these holes are the fuel intake to the carb, the hole in the center is the fuel nozzle.most likely you have dirt blocking this hole and not letting the motor get enough fuel to run.thake some carb cleaner and spray it in the hole.take an air hose then blow the nozzle out.while you have the screw out take the bowl off and check to see if there is any water or dirt in the bowl.after cleaning.reinstall the bowl and start mower again.should be running ok now.if not let me know and i'll guide you through another fix.let me know if this helped or not................

Lawnmower starts but won't run-replaced airfilter and plug cleaned carb

If it is starting and not continuing to run it still sounds as though something is blocking the fuel flow. If the carb has been cleaned out, literally torn down and the needles cleaned so that no small debris is clogging them, check the fuel tank and lines for anything that could be restricting the flow to the engine. Remember that it's recommended that you replace the fuel line (cheap fix) when you dismantle the carb. Removing the line breaks off small pieces of the rubber in a worn line, which can re-block a freshly cleaned carb.
