I have a 2003 gsxr 750 and when I get into high rpms it starts bogging out a bit. The bike did sit for a bit. At one point it had really bad gas in it that I drained out. After I drained it out it ran great for 3 weeks and then started the bogging in high rpm. I changed plugs and air filter. I do notice a weird noise when the fuel pump is turning on coming from a black box on the opposite side of the throttle body. @
Before you spend a lot of time looking and checking things buy a can of seafome from your local auto parts store you can add one ounce per gallon of gas I've seen it work mericals in vehicles lawn mowers motorcycles and such that have had gas left in them for long periods of time it's cheaper than a trip to the shop for repairs give it a try it may take a tank or so to clear up but it dose work

The slingshot does NOT have a fuel pump. It is gravity feed through a petcock. Make sure that the petcock is set to the ON position. Its under the tank on the side.
If your bike has K&N filters on the carbs make sure you cover them with a plastic back before you wash next time.plus you will have to wash them and re-oil them before you put them back on. Dont use super high pressure washer to wash your bike. A garden hose will do.
If it has the stock air filter you might have gotten water into the carboration system with that high pressure washer you used. You'll need to disassemble the airfilter unit and either remove your carbs to take off the float bowls and get the water out or try to drain your float bowls while the carbs are still on the bike. Siphon out all the old gas if you think you got water in it or you will have to do this all over again. Sounds like you intoduce water into the system to me.
1. Got good gas?
2. Got spark?
3. Got oxygen?
4. Got rid of water in the system? = Should start.
I use to own a sling shot too. 1988 model red and white.

Pull the slide out of the carb then remove the jet needle and move the clip one notch lower on the needle.

check your spark plug if it burns ok. if it burns white its ok, also clean your carburator and the air cleaner after that start the engine again. if it does not change the problem is youre cdi unit.

There may not be an in-line fuel filter on the bike. Most bikes don't come with them. Yes, the fuel petcock has two screen filters on one pipe and they can get clogged up. Remove the tank then remove the petcock and clean it. The gas in the tank should be dumped into a clear plastic storage bin so that you can see if there is any water in the gas as well as rust and trash. Your bike is 15 years old and the inside of the tank may be rusty. If so, Google “ kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to

This will end the rust problem. Go ahead an install an in-line fuel filter. There is a drain plug on the lower left side of each carb. Drain each carb into a clear container and look for water and trash. You may need to clean the carbs but hold off to see if the other stuff fixes the problem.
Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock.
