Will not idle. Will not start hot or cold without throttle 1/4 open. Once started will rev well but when revs drop it cannot be recovered and it just dies. Needs choke wether hot or cold to start and 1/4 throttle as a minimum. Air screw does raise slide slightly but makes no difference. Even air screw fully in or out it will die when throttle released. Mixture screw makes no noticable effect as the revs cannot be held constantly low without dying. Carb totally clean, new gasket on suction coupling, reeds in good shape. Fuel clean, new fuel pipe and filter clear. Compression good. Is there anything you can advise before I end up stripping down and looking at the crancase seals or perhaps new piston etc.

By your description, it sounds like the pilot jet is plugged in the carb. Remove carb and clean thoroghly with carb cleaner and air, making sure that all jet passages are clear. Make sure that washer and "o" ring are present on fuel mixture screw, if so equipped. Make sure float level is correct.

Car stalls whether its hot or cold when the throttle is flicked down or you rev up and leave it to drop revs then it stalls.

Is the engine idle just set a bit low anyway? Can you access the idle adjustment and turn it up a tad? The sluggish drive may be in need of an engine service but a 1.3 is small for this car. Check out online car owner forums to see if others think so to.

I own a 1990 3cv it increases revs from idle to around 3000 once it has warmed up if I stop the motor for a bit then start it again the revs will do the same I have cleaned out the carbs and replaced

You mean the revs come up even if the throttle is left in idle?
If yes: it means your idle runs too lean AND the carbs aren't balanced ( one gives more air than another )
Unscrew all the idle mix screws 1/2 turn
To balance, remove 1 spark plug lead, check the rev falling.
Replace the lead and remove another one. Check the rev fall etc...
Regulate the carb opening so that all the cilinder disconnects give the same rev-drop.

When my buick century 1995 is cold it will start but won't rev up. once it is hot it runs okay

Number of possibilities. See if you have any diagnostic codes stored. Could be throttle position sensor, coolant temp. sensor, hard to say. I would start with the codes. Does it start easy when warmed up, and run good? Boy, I just don't know.

My mazda mx5 <1600cc>at normal operating temperature idles at 800 revs, after about 20 seconds the revs drop to 400 revs, after 5 seconds they return to 800 revs, this problem is continuous at idle.This...

Hi,
Sounds like a tune up is in order.
You can mask the problem by changing the fuel filter and spark plugs.
Also there is a small adjustment screw at the throttle linkage. Open the hood and stand close to the battery. Have someone rev the engine and look for the circle or half circle looking spring like mechanism. This is your throttle. Take a small screwdriver or other wrench [ some have different adjustment screws] and simply turn the screw you will see as the adjuster in about 1.4 turn until you are happy with the idle.

Motor wont rev up when starting cold with choke on trys to run on idle but will not rev up

the motor wont rev high on choke.the motor is suppose to fire once on choke. then turn the choke off.pull the start cord and the motor should start and run.check that the throttle conrol is on full. it should run fine.

My 1986 Ford F-150 5.0 EFI runs good, but when I start it it revs to 1700 rpm untill I give it a little gas then it drops to normal rpm. How do I stop it from the high revs when started?

Does it rev high when started cold or hot? If it does it either hot or cold, check the throttle position sensor on throttle body. If that is not bad, then check the automatic choke sensor.

1991 GSXR 750 cutting on low revs

run a can of Seaforam in the tank..purchase from Autozone put in 1/3 to two gallons gas drive it around for at least 10 miles to insure it cleans out the whole carb system.if that doesnt work, check all carb hose fittings when bike is at idle spray some Chemtool B-12 ( also at Autozone) around the carb hoses and manifolds..if idle increses thats your problem. Caution: chemtool is very toxic wear gloves and a mask.

START VEHICLE, IDLES AT ABOUT 600REVS, IF LEFT SITTING AT IDLE IT JUST GETS FASTER AND FASTER AND WILL REV TO 2000+ REVS CHECKED LINKAGES AND LUBED

Sounds like a engine warming up and the choke opening without being allow thh reset the linkage. When it does that, tap the throttle and see if it drops to proper idle. choke may need adjustment for standing warm up. good luck
