Secure the bike with the rear tire off the ground.

Take the nut off the one side of the pivot bolt.

Now get a rubber mallet or deadblow, and beat that pivot bolt hard a few hits
Don't be afraid to hit it hard, because thats what it'll take to get it out.
DO NOT use a hammer and beat the threads or mushroom the end of the pivot bolt or you'll never get it out unless you cut it off.

use one hand to hold the swingarm while tapping the bolt, which will take a little pressue off the bolt making it slide out with each tap.

Before reassemble, clean the bolt and the threads.

SOURCE: im trying to replace the swingarm

Is it a through bolt? Does it spin on one end while turning the other? Put the nut back on and tap it with a lead hammer, see if it is just a big bolt, then drive it out the rest of the way with a dowel. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: how do i remove the pivot bolt from the swingarm

It will have a nut on one end (usually a 22mm, or 7/8" socket) and a washer. Most bikes you have to remove the rear brake pedal to allow the bolt to come out. It should come out with help from a hammer and a large punch. If it doesn't, no one has ever removed it and greased it up. I have seen them so bad you have to cut the pivot bolt out, not a fun job!

Just for some information, in a race season, I pull every nut, bolt, bearing and pivot point apart to pack some grease in. Then I lock-tite all hardware (Blue 242) This helps down the road. I do this a couple times a year.

I just finished wiring my custom bobber with a twin cam A harley motor and it trips the starter relay but not before it starts smoking from the pivot bolt on the rear swing arm. Why is this

Did you put lights (license plate, brake light, turn signals, running lights) onto the swingarm? When you cut off your fender, what did you do with the lighting? The lights expect to get ground (the negative side of your 12V system) through your frame. So the frame--your fender, your frame, the metal parts of the bike--act as the negative 'wire' for your system. In this case, I expect your swingarm is providing that ground instead, and the swingarm runs through a bearing/bushing/pivot point that is likely greased and not a good electrical conductor! You could try running a heavy primary wire from the bike frame or engine mounting point back to a point on the swingarm, preferably where your lights are mounted. Leave a loop or slack wire at the pivot point of the swingarm so you don't break the wire when you hit a bump. (By the way, I assume you really mean the starter breaker, not the starter relay...)

Swingarm pivot bolt

Must admit that as long as I have been involved in motorcycles which is 30 years plus, I have not heard of a swing arm pivot bolt snapping. Has it been weakened some how ? eg machined welded, heated the cooled quickly which would cause the steel to become harder but a brittle. Hope that helps

How to change a swingarm on a harley davidson flhtc

Remove the rear wheel, brakes and shocks. Remove the silver plugs in the center of the passenger footboard mounts. Remove the rear floorboard mounts, and the rubber mounts behind them. Remove the bolt on the left side of the swingarm pivot. Chances are the pivot bolt is rusted in, so you may have to pound it out with a drift. Replace the rubber mounts when you put everything back together.

Taking the motor out of my dirtbike

The motor mounts at 4 points-cylinder head, 2 under the front of the motor, and the swingarm pivot bolt. In order remove- seat, tank, rear subframe, exhaust.Remove the motor mount at the rear of the head, leave the throttle cables on the carb, unplug the wires to the TPS and remove the carb.Bag it and tie it up out of the way. Remove top bolt of rear shock and the swingarm bolt, pull the entire swingarm and suspension back as far as you can-you'll need the room to back the motor up a little to get it out of the frame. Unplug the ignition wires, and remove the last 2 mounting bolts from the front of the motor thru the frame. from the left side of the bike, back the motor up and rotate the front toward you and it comes right out. Actually took a break from installing a fresh Honda 250 R motor to write you this tip! Good luck!
