Your front fork seal are bad and need to be replaced.
When you loose fork oil, your loosing suspension dampening and only riding on the springs.(POGO)

Replace both front fork seals and dust caps, and put same amount of fork fluid in both forks.

I bought my seals and caps for $30 on ebay, and then took my forks off my bike and took them to a shop and they charged me $75 to do the job.

You can take them the whole bike and they will charge $100 - $150 including parts to do the job.

How much oil in front forks?

The fork oil should come to just below the bottom of the threads of the bolt by the o ring. do not use regular motor oil as it doesn't have the correct viscosity that fork oil has. Make sure both forks have the same amount of oil to prevent an unbalanced feel to the front end

I have a 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R with 31000 miles, and just had the original fork oil changed to Silkolene Pro RSF 5. I changed it because the front end was pogoing a bit just driving down the road....

Take them to someone who specialises on suspension rebuilds and get them sorted properly. You cannot afford to mess about with the handling on a bike that is capable of 200mph!

Keep having leaking fork seals.have replaced seals and oil after every ride lately.(4)have tried two brands of seals last time disasembled whole of forks cleaned every part, shims everything and had...

G'day. A couple of suggestions-
Damage to the fork slider-chips or dings.
Too much oil in the fork on re-assembly can cause the seal to go.
Worn or loose fork bushes will flog the seal prematurely.
When you transport the bike-if you don't use a seal saver can pop the seals.

So let me help with these.

Be sure that the fork slider is not scored, dinged or damaged on th surface.

A good double check of the oil quantity is to ensure that when you have re-filled the tube with oil & primed it(worked the air out of it), the oil level should be 100 to 110 mm from the top of the leg to the oil with the fork fully compressed. If the level is less than this-drop it to 100mm.

To check the fork bushes-try pull on the front forks front to back(wobble) & feel for looseness in the bushes.

And finally-When you transport the bike-put a chock(I use an empty 5ltr oil container-but you can buy propper chocks from the bike shop) in-between the forks at top of the front wheel .
Now when you pull the front end down it will stop on the chock & stop the front forks being under excessive compression for extended periods-so it saves the fork springs from sacking out too.
I hope this proves helpfull.
Kind regards Andrew Porrelli

THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HANDLE BAR SEEMS TO BE HEAVY THAN THE RIGHT HANDLE BAR.. SO I CAN FEEL THE INBALANCE WHENEVER I RUN THE CB IN THE HIGHWAY...

Lift the bike off the ground (front end), turn steering side to side, should be smooth all the way (not notchy), check your tyres both front and rear, uneven wear, warped rim, should spin freely and true (wheel bearings) than check for fluids on your fork legs, your front fork seals may be leaking or the oil may be due for a change!!

Frough riding. Seems that the front end has no give at all. I feel all the bumps in the road thru the handlebars. Adjustment?

Either you have too much air pressure in your front forks or you ,or someone, has put too much oil in the front forks and you are destroying your forks with every bump. Let out the air pressure to soften the ride. If some one has put too much oil in the forks , disassemble them, evaluate the damage , repair , refill with correct amount of oil , and ride.

I need the oil capacity for the front forks

That is something you are going to have to look up from the manuf. They don't hold much, maybe 1 pt. I just did mine, 3/4 pint in each. I bought 2 bottles at the motorcycle shop and still have some left. So look up your forks, ohlins, brembo, sachs, ceriani, showa, whatever, get the schematic for them, pull them apart in a big pan to catch the oil, and replace the seal, or whatever you are doing. You don't have to top them off if they don't show signs of a leak, if you feel the shock is gone out of them, well, that's different. Your bike is a 2005, it shouldn't have a problem in the front end. Hope this helps.

My triple tree bearings nuts are not loose nor are my fork tube clamps. but i still feel like the fron wheel is tracking side to side. do you know what i mean? oh ya checked front axle its tight too.

are the forks leaking oil? is there air pressure in the forks? Start by draining the forks and putting in the correct ammount of the proper oil, and getting the air pressure right then see how she rides. Other things to check, front wheel bearings, worn triple tree bearings.

Fork oil 1987 KX250.

G,Day back. Not sure about how much oil to put in the forks but may be able to help you stop the leak.Get a film negitave from a camera.Like the ones that come in the developed packet.Cut the notched section off the side of it.Trim one end at 45%.Now slide this into the fork seal and with a sawing action, move it all the way around the seal. When you get the feel of it,you will be able to feel bits of dirt in the seal. When you do,pull it out and the dirt will come with it.Do this a few times. This will work if the seal are not cactus and is cheaper than a rebuild.Hope this is of some help.

Front Suspension

Try this from sv650.org FAQ list great site try it. Quote Here's a piece for your FAQ section. Oh....OK then.... My reworking of the SV continues - just thought I would send the lazy way of changing the fork oil and adding spacers - without removing the forks! Lets face it, removing the front wheel, mudguard, calipers, forks etc is a right pain - there is a better way and it can be done in under 15 minutes! You need a thin bamboo pole about 3 foot long, 2 metres of 10mm flexible pipe, a bent nail, 1 litre of fork oil and a selection of 35mm washers. You are now ready to convert the washed out front suspension without removing the fork legs and it can be done in under 15 minutes! First loosen the fork caps, now jack up the front wheel clear of the ground. Remove the fork caps completely - dont worry about the caps popping upwards with spring tension, there is none! Remove the metal spacer tubes from inside the forks. Attach your bent nail to bamboo stick with tape, grovell inside forks and pull up to remove spacer washer, then grovel again and remove the spring. Remove bent nail, insert bamboo pole into one leg, until it goes to the bottom - careful, the bottom has a recess in, get it right and you will feel the pole go down another six inches. Pull back out and mark oil level on bamboo stick with black marker pen for reference later. Attach pipe to bamboo stick right at the end and again send to inside of forks, down into recess. Suck on pipe and all the oil will magically drain into can. Catch what can! - Whoops sorry you need a can to catch oil in! Process takes about two minutes and does remove all the oil! Drain second leg same. Pour 480ml of 15 sw oil into first leg, insert bamboo stick and careful top up to reference mark made earlier. Follow suit with second leg. (Mr Suzuki was a full 30mm different from one leg to the other in my SV - you now have two perfectly balanced legs - 489 ml is the correct amount per leg) Insert springs, then amount of washers to increase preload that you require - I inserted 15mm each side and it feels not bad. The washers must be 35mm exactly, anymore and they will not fit inside the legs. I managed to find some at 35.5mm and had to grind the .5mm off. Just drop an equal amount in each leg and top off with the original suzuki washer. Insert the spacers and tighten up the fork caps - you will have to push down hard as you tighten as your washers are now doing their job. Lower jack and burn rubber up the street! Some people prefer thicker 20 sw oil, or more spacers, around 19mm not uncommon. With the rear set on number four, the front now feels matched, doesn't flop when braking and has helped no end with the pitching (UK roads). Rates about a seven on the improvement scale. You could do better and fit aftermarket springs but not for the £8 the above cost inc the oil. So there you have it - the laziest way of uprating the SV front yet!
