Hi, bought my son a kazuma meerkat quad 50cc 2010 model electric start, unable to start the quad with the electric start? when ignition on & start button pressed selonoid clicks once & a sometimes a very faint 'whirl' noise comes from the starter unit on top of the engine? when start button pressed & you hold the bottom of the selonoid you can feel it click? i have carried out the easy short test across the 2 ports on the selonoid & the starter still does not fire the engine? do i need a new starter motor unit? many thanks for any replies.

I had the same problem. My positive wire would arc with the key off when connecting the battery showing a short somewhere. I disconnected the regulator/ rectifier, (where the #16 positive lead from the battery goes to), and it quit. I found a new one on e-bay for $9.90 after shipping and it corrected the problem. Check to make sure your positive is not arcing with the key off. Hope this helps.

My 50cc Meerkat kazuma Quad does not have enough compression to start. it's at about 30psi?

Sounds like you need to replace the carb reed. you will know by checking if there is air blowing out of the carb when you crank it over. There should be nothing coming back out. if this is not the case you need to replace the piston rings.
