1. Removal of engine body components

1) Remove the fixing screws of the cylinder head. Note that the screws should be loosened from the ends to the middle, and the screws should be removed three times.

2) Lift the cylinder head. Remove the cylinder head gasket and pay attention to the installation orientation of the cylinder head gasket. Loosen the oil drain screw of the oil pan and release the oil from the oil pan.

3) Turn the engine over and remove the oil pan fixing screws (note that the screws should also be loosened from the ends to the middle), remove the oil pan and the oil pan seal. Loosen the oil filter and fix the oil filter, remove the oil filter, the oil pump sprocket and the oil pump.

2. Disassembly of the engine piston connecting rod set

1) Turn the crankshaft so that the engine 1 and 4 cylinder pistons are at the bottom dead center. Remove the fastening nuts of the connecting rods of the 1 and 4 cylinders separately, and remove the bearing cover of the lower connecting rod. Pay attention to the pairing marks of the connecting rods and place them in order. Gently push out the 1 and 4 cylinder piston rod assemblies with a hammer, and manually catch the piston rod assembly at the cylinder outlet and pay attention to the piston installation direction.

2) Replace the bearing cover of the connecting rod, the connecting rod bolt and the nut in the original position. The connecting rods of different cylinders cannot be exchanged with each other. Use the method to disassemble the piston rod set of 2 and 3 cylinders.

Do you have to replace an alternator for a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis GS with a factory authorized alternator? We bought one at the auto parts store and it said you may have to replace the pulley and our...

Take that alternator back, and try another parts store.Bring the old alternator with you,and do NOT pay for the part unless they find you an alternator with the right pulley,or allow you to swap the pulley on sight to verify it will work.In extreme cases, you may be able to send your alternator to be rebuilt and get the same one back, but I don't think this is the only solution.

Battery warning light is on after a new battery and alternator on a 2000 grand voyager

There should be a fuse or fuseable link between the battery and the alternator.
Check the voltage at the battery wire on the back of the alt - should be 12 volts or more.
The alternator is turned on by the ASD relay and the computer.
If the engine is running I will assume the relay is working.
If you have battery voltage on the big wire and the alternator is not charging, you could have a problem with the computer.

How to change an alternator?

I don't know if you have the job done since your posting. It's a very easy job. I did replace mine few days ago. Let's say 30 minutes job with right tools and an inside work area. 1- disconnect battery terminals 2-remove the air filter assembly giving more room to work. 3- disconnect the wire connection to the back of the alternator 4- using a wrench key (14 or 15 milimiter dont remember) release the tension on the strap swinging the bender wheel (located at your left) to the right. Maintaining the binding wheel at this position get the strap out of the alternator pulley. Try to keep the strap in place on all the other pulleys and rollers to save you reinstall work. 5- Unscrew and remove the 3 bolts retaining the alternator (14 or 15 milimeters ?) remove and replace the alternator. Maybe you will have to use a prybar to get it out of its seat. 6- Do the reverse step by step to complete the job. Just make sure that the strap is sitting properly over the pulleys and rollers. Once complete, start the engine and check if everything is in line in regard to the strap. If the alternator was really the root cause of your problem now the meter in your dash should indicate between 13.5 and 14 volts with all the demand turned on ( front beam, defrost, heater fan, wiper). Within these bondaries you're in business. Good luck Sorry for my poor english language. Dan

Changing alternator, 2000 grand caravan

disconnect battery, remove belt, take off wipers, remove tray holding wiper drive parts, there is a plug, 2 drains, and washer hose to disconnect, remove trianglar plate on top of the ALT, including the top ALT bolt, push ALT to the back, remove wires, remove lower ALT bolt, rotate ALT to the spot between the engine, strut tower, AC line, and fuel line, it will come out through this spot. The hook shaped bracket stays in place and in the way. This was a 2000 grand caravan 3.8 with AC. all bolt/screws are fairly accesible

I can not figure out how to remove the alternator from a 2000 caravan w/3.3l engine. Alternator is free but I can not contort it out of the engine compartment? Any help please! Thanks Greg

I have recently done this twice to my 2000 Grand Caravan with the 3.3l engine.
1) Remove the top plate which is attached to the alternator mounting bracket held in by 3 bolts.
2) remove the alternator bolts securing the altenator to the mounting bracket.
3) pry the alternator off the bottom mounting bracket
4) turn the alternator around show you can easily see the power wires on back of the alternator and remove the 11/32 nut holding the wire to the alternator. Be careful not to drop the nut behind the engine, because you probably will never find it (experienced).
5) Disconnect the wires from the alternator
6) Remove the black cooragated tube running vertical in front of the alternator and remove the tubes hold clip from the suspension wall.
7) Slide the alrernator pully first up through the opening. You may need to rotate the alternator a little so it fits up through.
