SOURCE: rear shock sealhead Kyoba on Y Z 426 F

I assume you have disassembled the shock, ground off the peened end of the shock shaft, removed the shaft nut, and have the seal head off already? If so I recommend not to disassemble the seal head itself. The fragile little bushings and seals in the inner diameter of the seal head are extremely difficult to R&R without scarring the seal head or the replacement parts. Your local dealer can order a complete seal head from KYB Direct or Moose at a reasonable price. This is a much easier and more reliable fix.

Both Ohlins and Works performance make shock/spring replacements for the Venture, an internet search should get you a number of sources.

1971 Yamaha DT250. Why don't I have power to the points?

You need a wiring diagram or service manual to check the way the circuit runs and whether it earths via the points or earths via the coil. The way the spark works is that the coil is energized all the time the ignition is on and the spark is created when the the points *break* the contacts.

You will only have power at the points with the ignition on and only on one side with the points open.

Various resources in the link, but none that I am willing to register for.

All spring no shock

Your rear shock has oil in it that is a measured amount. But...also has a nitrogen charge. If this leaks out, you need to get the rear shock rebuilt.
