I have a 92 lexus es300 that is idling rough, and the best way to describe it is it gets "shaky" when I step on the gas, until it kicks in to the right gear. Yesterday it wouldn't start right-started only to shut down right away. Brought it into the shop I bought it from today and they replaced one of the cylendars. That did make a bit of a difference but it still idles a bit rough and is a bit "shaky". Could it be they should have replaced another cylendar also or something more?

SOURCE: 92 lexus es300 knock sensor

Need to remove the upper and lower air intake manifold.  There are two knock sensors for the front and rear pistons banks.  If you plan to do this yourself it is about 1 to 2 hours.  While you are at it, there is a short coolant bypass hose sitting in the same spot, replace it.  Another problem with the knock sensor is the wire harness used to connect the two knock sensors into one connection sometimes wears out and contacts the metal on the engine causing false signals to the ECM, so replace this cable also.
Just did this last summer on my 99 ES300.  Pretty easy.

SOURCE: amplifier location 1993 lexus es300

My Son has a 95 es300, the amp for it is located under the front passenger seat. The easiest way to access it is to remove the 4 bolts holding the seat down, and remove the seat. Takes about 5 minutes

SOURCE: I need to change my ignition cylendar.

Ignition Lock Cylinder REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 1997–99 Models CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in Section 6. NOTE: Before continuing with this procedure, make sure to have available a new steering wheel retaining bolt and two lock cylinder retaining bolts. Once removed, these parts lose their torque holding ability (or retention capability) and must not be reused.

  1. If equipped, disarm the air bag system and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If necessary, remove the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the combination switch.
  4. Unplug the ignition switch wiring connectors.
  5. Remove the ignition and shifter interlock cable mounting bracket bolt and position the assembly to one side.
  6. Cut a groove in the ignition cylinder bracket bolts with a chisel and hammer or use a similar method.
  7. Using a screwdriver, remove and discard the bracket bolts.
  8. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder and bracket. To install:
  9. Install the new ignition switch and the bracket into position on the steering column tube.
  10. Install the new lock cylinder bolts and tighten the bolts enough to hold the switch in position.
  11. Check for proper switch operation by rotating the key to each position. If necessary, reposition the lock cylinder until it operates properly.
  12. If positioned properly, tighten the retaining bolts until the bolt head shears off.
  13. Position the interlock cable bracket. Install and tighten the retaining bolt to 35–53 inch lbs. (4–6 Nm).
  14. Attach the wiring connector to the ignition switch.
  15. Install the combination switch.
  16. If removed, install the steering wheel.
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18. Confirm operational status of the air bag system by turning the ignition key to the RUN position and visually monitoring the air bag indicator lamp in the instrument cluster. The indicator lamp should illuminate for approximately 6 seconds and then turn OFF. If the indicator lamp does not illuminate, stays ON, or flashes at any time, a fault has been detected by the air bag diagnostic monitor.
  19. Check the steering wheel, horn and combination switch functions for proper operation.

1992 es300 blue smoke from exhaust

The most common cause of blue exhaust smoke is oil leaking past engine seals and into the cylinders where it then mixes and burns with the fuel. Oil leaking into the cylinders can cause a rough idle, misfire and fouled spark plugs. So best bet is to have a local repair shop inspect for internal oil leakage.

My 84 caprice classic it has a very shakie idle

When you start your car, you step on the gas and turn the key, you have set the high idle feature on the carb as part of the warmup sequence. When you step on the gas again, you kick high idle off ...if premature, the engine is cold and it runs ruff, and wikll likely stall under some circumstances until you have reached operating temp. The reason for the ruffness ...is gasoline becomes 'gas' better when the engine is at operating temp than when the engine is cold.

Your battery is getting tired. When you step on the gas and the lights get brighter, it is because you are running the alternator at a higher speed and you are making more electricity which the lights are more than happy to gobble up.

Keep in mind your car is notonly a Caprice Classic ... it is a classic, 26 year old vehicle. It needs a little more TLC than a newer model.
