Just replaced the front fairing on my vino. putting the headlight back on but am not getting any power to it. taillight works. Ran a voltage test...is good. any ideas? yamaha yj125x

The black wire with yellow tracer is voltage for tail lamps. With the headlamp switch on, any voltage on that wire? Use a test light to check. Also check fuse 14--15amp.
It is fairly common on US cars for the taillights and dash to be on the same fuse. This is apparently planned so you would know when you taillights are out. (the manual does not tell you that) If you have a owners manual, find the taillight fuse and it is probably blown.
Sounds like a bad relay... the relay switches all power to the solenoid to start the bike... when you let off of the starter it turns the lights etc back on. If the relay goes bad... starter button will not work, and no power to the headlight/taillight/dashlights... the relay is fairly cheep, 10 to 15 bucks....so its a pretty cheap test to see if that is what is wrong.
I'd be willing to bet your dash lights don't work either when you turn the headlight on.change the headlight switch, it has a short, it's only about 11 dollars at advance auto, and is fairly easy to replace. my 93 chevy did same thing, changed headlight switch, problem solved
Check power coming from headlight switch if none when on replace headlight switch, if there is power coming from it, replace your high/low beam switch.
I have an1988 Goldwing 1500 and lost my dash, all instrument, and head and taillights on a trip back to Kentucky from Florida. I sent most of the Saturday in Atlanta finding a repair shop and finally spent $95 for a technician to regain my power by doing as follows. You can loosen the 4 8 mm mounting bolts in your left saddlebag. 2 at the top and 2 in the floor. Remove the left side cover, the Fuse box cover for the Relay cover to clear, pull hard on the saddlebag at the front. Then unsnap the relay box cover and work it to the front past the fuse panel and remove it. On the back of the cover you will see a diagram of all your relays and what they control. Remove the main relay which controls your head and taillights. Pull the relay that controls you air compressor because you dont absolutely need it. Place it into the main circuit. That will restore you head and taillights. I had a short in my low beam headlight relay that took out my headlights and taillights and I was pulling a trailer and needed them both. When removing the relay it freed the circuits and all was restored except my low beams. I ordered a replacement relay when returning to Kentucky for a price of $28 each. You can match the relays up with Auto Zone Pilot fog light 30 amp relay for $8 each but they must order them because the former older Pilot Fog lights are not sold there anymore. They will fit exactly only slightly larger but will work over the 20 amp factory but you must break off the mounting tab and grind off the residue on the sidewalk or using a file in order for your Relay Box Cover to close. Then reverse putting everything back together. I hope that resolves your problem. I keep 3 extra relays in my saddle bags. You can test the relays by connecting 12 volts to the 2 side terminals and they should click. Connect an ohm meter to the other 2 and you should get a reading to infinity. If no response the relay is bad.
If you ran a new harness and all the connections are good you may have a bad headlight switch. Also check if you are getting current to lights and that they are grounded. The problem may also be the dimmer switch.
