I am having trouble changing the fork lock on my 2000 heritage soft tail.My ignition switch went bad so I bought a kit from my HD dealer. The kit came with switch, plastic plug, and fork lock. I changed the switch now wanting to change fork lock. I drilled out the plug in the set screw hole removed set screw and tried pulling the lock out. It came out about An 1/8th of an inch then stopped and cant get it to come out any farther. Want do I do newt to change lock?

Ok, this is what the service manual says.

1. Loosen upper triple clamp pinch bolts. Remove upper triple clamp and handlebars.
2. Loosen fork stem bolt. Let fork stem drop approx. 5 inches. (127mm)

On the left side of the steering stem there is a "half-moon" indentation that has been machined into the steering stem for the lock. Let steering stem drop until this indentation is in full view.

3. Use a scribe and remove lead plug.
4. Unscrew set screw
5. Insert key in lock and turn partially
6. Wiggle lock and pull until enough of the lock comes out to get a grip with pliers or other suitable tool.
7. Rotate steering stem slightly, while pulling on lock until lock is removed.

Good Luck

2008 fxdl lowrider lost key and forks locked any way to unlock got new after market switch to install

Simplest way is to go to a dealer, give him the VIN number and get the correct key to fit both lock and ignition switch. A new set of keys is cheaper than a steering lock and ignition key, even aftermarket ones.

In changing 2005 Harley Heritage Model FLSTCI fork oil, how many ounces of fork oil should I use? What does wet or dry mean?

I'm sorry but I don't have the specs on the quantity and type of fork oil for your year and model bike. I work on the older bikes that the dealers will no longer service. But, I can describe the difference between the "wet" and "dry" conditions of the fork assembly. If you take the front forks apart, clean them out, and put them back together with no oil in them, they are considered "dry". For a simple drain and refill type oil change on them where you don't get all the oil out of them, they are considered "wet". I hope this helps, You can call you local dealer's service department and they should tell you the quantity and viscosity of the oil that goes in the front forks on your machine. They'll tell you something like 6 ounces of "Type E" oil, for example. Harley-Davidson uses these types of specs to describe their oils. If you go to a website for fork oil, like PJ1, they may give a cross reference or equivalency chart for converting H-D "Type E" to their oil. I think that would be their 30 weight oil. If the front end seems too "stiff" with 30 weight, you can drop down to 20 weight. I think Honda makes a 25 weight but not sure. Your Harley won't mind the Honda oil. BG.

How do I change the fork oil on a 2002 Heritage Soft tail Harley?

look at the fork legs at the bottom there is a bolt on both legs its only a small bolt,,, undo this bolt and the fork oil will drain out,, to refill the forks take the top nut off the fork leg near the handel bars,,,,,,dont over fill with oil,,,and only use the proper oil,,or the seals will blow out and the forks will be very stiff

Remove ignition switch from 2000 harley-davidson heritage classic need to remove fork lock-power on knob to gain acess of wireing

To remove the ignition switch turn the handle bar fully to the right, turn the ignition switch to access position and with the key in the switch depress the tab under the switch with a small screwdriver (the tab is to the lower left under the knob) and while pressing down on the key, turn the key counterclockwise about 60 degrees. At that point the switch will pull out of the housing.
