Question about Triumph Daytona 600 Motorcycles

Triumph Daytona 600 will not turn over

Having problems starting my Daytona 600. I pull the clutch in and press the start button but nothing at all happens, no turning over of the engine just nothing, this is intermittent and can happen anytime either from a cold start or after doing 100 miles. The battery is fine, it's getting worse as now it can sometimes take half a dozen tries of the clutch and starter button before it fires up, when before it would fire up the second try. thanks for your help.

Hi, Jordan_x_tur before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

Two possibilities:

  • starting relay. This could actually be bypassed/jumped to determine if the starter motor will turn:
  • starter motor. most likely carbon brush.

check starter solenoid.see if getting power to starter side when pressing button .if yes check if power to starter w/ test light when pressing button.if power there check starter,also motor, will it turn manually or is it seized.if no power to starter side of solenoid, jump across solenoid posts w/ a large screwdriver -motor will probaly turn over,w/ key on.if small wire to solenoid has power when pressing start,solenoid bad,if no power, wiring or start button bad.

SOURCE: Xchallenge won't start when engine is hot.

Check tightness of bolt where (carb/FI) goes into intake, and where intake goes into engine. Check gaskets in those locations, if any. Sounds like heat is causing some material to distort, causing a vacuum leak.

Take one of the plugs out and hold it against the head while the engine cranks. You should get decent spark. If not, you have an ignition problem. If it gets decent spark, try spraying some starting fluid into the air cleaner box. If the engine starts up and runs for a couple seconds, you have a fuel delivery problem.

2004 Triumph Daytona 600 will not start


Hi, Samuel and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. The fuel tank has old dead gas.
3. Fuel tank bottom contaminated with ethanol sludge, dirt, water, rust, etc.
4. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
5. Fouled spark plugs.
6. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enrichner.
7. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
8. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
9. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched, kinked or blocked.
10. Carburetor float stuck.
11. Fuel injectors clogged.
12. Fuel injectors stuck open.
13. 2004 triumph Daytona 600.... will not start all it does when you push the start button is click. Have checked all 4 relays under seat and all grounds. Battery shows 12.2 volts and 166 cranking amps. Please...


If you check that is not an electric problem, and is not the batery, the problem should be from the starting motor. Try to start the bike by selecting the 2nd gear and pull, take a ride, till the bike is heat and try again to start the bike with the button, if the problem persists then you should change the starting motor. Before you change the starting motor, change the starting relay, is cheap and probably can solve your problem too.

Daytona 650 turns over but won't start


Hi, Chad and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. The fuel tank has old dead gas.
3. Fuel tank bottom contaminated with ethanol sludge, dirt, water, rust, etc.

Check the safety switch on the side stand, common problem , plunger gets thick with grease of chain then fails to opperate as the plunger sticks either in or out,

Hi, The_redneckc and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary your battery may show 12.5 volts or more but have little or zero amps and must be replaced.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Fuel tank empty.
10. Fuel tank contaminated with ethanol sludge.
11. Water or dirt in the fuel system, or clogged filter.
12. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
13. Faulty fuel pump.
14. Faulty pressure regulator.
15. Faulty or clogged fuel injectors.

I just started my 2006 suzuki gsxr 600 for the first time since fall and it starts fine in neutral but as soon as i put it in gear it cuts off. The kickstand is up


Sounds like your clutch is stuck on [not disengaging when you pull the leaver]This can happen over a long storage-no use period.To fix put the bike in 3rd gear and start the engine with the clutch lever pressed[caution the bike will want to surge forward so keep your foot on the brake]Make shure to have the engine up to normal running temperature before you try this fix.the engine firing along with the brake pulled will release the sticking clutch plates.This will work!!!

If it goes away when you pull the clutch in then I would think it something to do with the engine but i could be wrong there. Can you put the bike on a jack and put it in gear and maybe find out what going on. Let me know what you find out. You got me wondering.

Hello, wheelies mm not good for your gearbox or clutch, 1st off is the gearbox working OK, does it jump out of 2nd gear under hard acceleration? then we can move on from this point,
