SOURCE: VN900 CLASSIC VALVE CHECK. When checking

You can do it if you catch tdc on the correct stroke, but it's always better to rotate the engine after each adjustment.

SOURCE: yamaha tw. noise from engine

Check and reset (if needed) the valve clearances. With the engine cold, set the intake to .002 and the exhaust to .003. Is the cam chain tensioner set properly? Burn premium gas and install a new NGK spark plug one heat range colder than stock to lessen any possible pre-ignition. Are there any signs of wetness, oil or blackish discoloration on the base of the cylinder head? > A blown head gasket can make a ticking sound also.

SOURCE: Yamaha Power Valve System

yes you do need a battery, the best position for thr power valve is half open, then once its started turn it either open for bottom end power or closed for top end,i think that right it might be the other way round ant quite remember, but half open should be best for it to start

SOURCE: iv just bought a tzr 125 belgarda its smokes like

There are two places where gearbox oil can leak into the combustion process: from the gasket between the two engine case halves, or from the crank seal on the right hand end of the crankshaft. The most likely culprit is the crankshaft seal.

I have a 2011 nissan navara d40 but cylinder 2 has no compression still starts but runs really rough just wondering what it could be

No compression means it is leaking out of that cylinder somehow. Is the vehicle doing anything else? Is the exhaust gas thicker or a different colour to normal? Is there oil in the coolant reservoir? Is there a 'mayonnaise' like built up in the oil filler hole? This with the compression loss could be a blown head gasket.
The only places on a diesel it can escape from is head gasket, valve seats, heater plug mounting hole or the piston rings. I would recommend you take it to a good mechanic and ask him to do a "Leak down" test on it. This is where compressed air is forced into each cylinder in turn when it is at Top Dead Centre to find out where it is leaking from. They often set up the test and listen to the engine for the hiss of air.
Air intake hiss - most likely the intake valves,
Exhaust hiss - most likely the exhaust valves,
Oil dip stick hole hiss - Possibly the piston rings.
A blown head gasket could leak from anywhere depending on where on the gasket it has failed.

08 ski-doo gtx 500ss lost power to one cylinder, lots of spark, plug dirty. Blown piston? Cause?

check it's getting fuel to that cylinder, if so would suspect piston ring or leaking valve. burning blue smoke from exhaust is a clue.

What to do when there no psi on cyl 4 to get the psi up agan"?"

There are at least three possible reasons for no psi in cyl No 4.
1. Burnt or damaged exhaust valve in that cylinder
FIX Remove head and replace faulty valve
2. Blown head gasket (water mixed with sump oil shows milky on dipstick and steam or water coming out of exhaust tailpipe, radiator water disappears )
FIX Remove head, grind flat and assemble with new gasket.
3. Broken piston rings, or cracked piston or burnt hole in piston.
FIX replace faulty parts.
Squirt some sump oil ( 2 or 3 spoonfuls ) through spark plug hole,
spin motor , and if compression PSI improves then it is rings or piston, if no PSI then it is faulty ex valve !!!

Loud knocking noise from the engine the hotter the engine gets the louder

loud knocking is usually a piston problem[wrist pin-piston-piston rings -rod bent damaged-crank -bearing ]piston hitting valve pull plugs and check for fouling it will narrow down area do compression test but knock usually doesnt last long before engine usually goes south other which u can hope for and can sound like a knock would be the exhaust gasket good luck
