You dont say what bike this is, most modern bikes wont start if the neutrol light does not work, this is safety feture to stop you starting the bike in gear, does the bike turn over ok or not? Does the bike have the gearing selection reversed as with rear sets in track mode as the gears are reversed, and neutrol would be 1 down from the top

2002 Suzuki Savage dead except for neutral light.

It may be the kick stand safety switch? You can only start it sitting on the bike with the stand up.

Why doesn't engine turn over?

Check the battery. Is it charged? Also does the neutral light go on?
If not check the neutral switch.
The neutral switch is behind the engine case near the rear shock and has one wire. Make sure the bike is in neutral or on stands. Remove the one wire and put it to earth/chassis/ground (somewhere metal on the bike). The neutral light should come on and you should be able to start the bike if that was the problem.

Wont start at all

If you have no light you can't even hot wire it sounds like the ignition switch is bad in the start and run positions.

Where is the neutral safety switch on a 1998 goldwing

my neutral switch is a hit and miss. I'm just curious if it could be the battery. I let the bike sit tonight for a couple hours as I took parts off and turned on the battery the green light came on and then faded away. So I don't have a battery tester so I put it on charge and the lights is nice and bright so I turned the bike off put everything back and see if it will start so I can get to work. why would this happen sometimes and not others. Battery is 1.5 years old Decka battery. I heard replacing the switch is a big job and not a guaranty. thanks for the help

1985 model. I replaced battery, was running, now wont start, turn switch hit starter button , get nothing , there is a click from the relay that the previous owner just installed last summer. Lights and...

Check that your Engine kill switch is in the Run position.

Bike must be in neutral (with neutral light showing) to crank starter, if you try starting in gear the clutch switch must be activated (lever in) and the sidestand must be up.

When the stater button is pressed the engine does not turn over the oil light comes on but there is no neutral light everything else works lights horn ect. all fuses are good

Looks like you have a switch on your left handlebar that might cut power if you don't pull the clutch in. I've seen a few that have failed. Try wiring them together (to create a circuit) and see if it will let you do that. But if you don't have a neutral light on....you had better make sure the bike IS in Neutral first. Or at least throw the back on a stand so its up in the air, otherwise the bike may lurch forward and fall. Also, check the battery, sometimes they have enough juice to turn the lights on/horn etc, but not enough to start the motor. Good luck.

Neutral light won't turn on and bike won't start

The click u hear means your neutral isn't the problem, it means your new battery is trying to start the engine, however the power isn't making it to the starter. check the battery cables for good connection in the ends of the wires and at the start relay (the positive wire from the battery goes to the start relay that may need replacing) also from the start relay that you hear clicking down to the starter.make sure cable and nuts that hold them are clean in good shape. to get the neutral lite to come on the side stand doesn't do it, the shift lever does. you can be sure you are in neutral when the bike can roll without the clutch being pulled. If the bike is in neutral and the lite doesn't come on then replacing the bulb or sensor might be necessary.
