SOURCE: 2003 Yamaha wrf 250 only runs with the choke on

possibly water in your fuel.... it's a small tank so just put about a quarter bottle of gas line antifreeze in the tank... it's alcohol so it will **** up the water. there is also the possibility the fuel is somewhat dirty... change the fuel filter as well

SOURCE: 97 YAMAHA YZF 1000,wont start itself after bike is warm

Have you checked the ground lead?

Make sure it is clean, it runs down and bolts to the top right hand side of the crank case.

Sometimes what happens is, that lead gets grime on it, oil or corrosion.. and it doesn't make good contact. The lights, spark ETC load the crank case and frame full of DC.. when you shut the bike off the dc cant flow through the starter so it won't turn over.

after a while the dc trickles out it will let the bike start again.

Hope thats it and it works for you, good luck!!

P.S. how is he liking his ace?? Awsome bike, I have had mine since 1999, and it not about to go anywhere!!

SOURCE: 2006 Yamaha TTR 50E pouring oil out of air cleaner housing

With the oil problem I read on another site that Yamaha did that so that excess oil would be burned up in normal running (but this was usually smaller amounts). Anyways they disconnected the tube going to the air cleaner and had tied up in such a way that any excess oil would land on the chain thus lubricating it. But if you have that much oil coming out it could be that you have put in too much.

Running rough when gets warm

Hi Paul:
I'd be suspicious that valve/cam clearances will be questionable.
As components warm up they expand, so clearances get less.
This is one of the maintenance items that I personally leave to the shops with trained mechanics
Here is a link that will give you a LOT of information.

Does a 2003 dyna wide glide. Have a Manuel. Choke on a carb model ? And where is it. It starts. But cold natured. Till its warm you have to work throttle till its half warm

Have a look. If one is fitted, it will be next to the carb and have the word "Choke" written on it. Most bikes nowadays have an automatic choke that is operated by a full turn of the throttle before starting, it will switch off when a bi-metallic strip reaches the set temperature.

How do you cold start?

If everything is in good working order many newcomers to their bikes make a mistake when starting them cold they tend to open the throttle when the motor needs a richer mixture to run and start, now here is the secret lol full choke and do not touch the throttle do not open it when cold cranking the bike, once it starts then as it warms up ease off the choke then your good to go.

Starts but takes a very long time to warm up. continually stalls when throttle applied. have to keep feathering throttle to keep running . spits ,sputters , backfires until fully warmed up

ColdI engines require a richer mixture to operate smoothly...so they have an enricher (aka choke).
If you are finding you need to keep the choke on longer.....you may have a lean mixture than normal.nother
Start by inspecting the carb and intake manifolds for any leaks (loose fittings....cracked hoses) that could be drawing in air, leaning the mixture.

Another common issue with bikes that have sat over winter...is plugged idle jets.....the fuel varnishes the tiny orifices in the carb. You could try a product like Seafoam in the fuel tank....run it abit to get the treated fuel in the carbs then let it sit overnight...allowing time for the chemical to work. Since the bike runs fine warm...this may clear things up for you.
