Ahhh..........you have to remove the headlight and running lights bar..then undo 4 nuts inside the hole where the light goes....you,ve never removed an early fairing..have you!.

Unplug the wires from the housing (remeber where they go markignt hem if need be). Then you will eb able to pull the light bulb housing off the light housing. the bulb will then pull or twist out of this hosuing(sure is alot of housings :) ). from there its just putting it all back togther

Drain the fuel either by siphening or removing the cross over tube at the front of the tank and letting it drain that way or just block off those cross over lines and leave the fule in the tank for removal.
0) remove seat
1) drain fuel
2) undo cross over line (bottom front of gas tank.
3) shut off pet **** and remove fuel line from pet ****.
4)there should only be 2 bolts holding the tank on, one at the top front of the tank and one at the back of the tank.
All in all a pretty easy (but possibloy messy) job.

You don't have that on a 2002. Do you have a power commander on it? Sounds typical of the older style power commander ( IIIr ) one thing to pay attention to is does it do it under load? If it's not showing any historic codes and the bike rides fine, and you have a power commander 3r I wouldn't worry. It's normal. The older power commander lies to the ecm. Sometimes it gets confused and kind of glitches ( that's where the light comes from ) but if it has running issues to I would take it to a shop to find out what the codes are and go from there.

Push the entire assembly back into the cargo area of the vehicle - it is clipped to the frame. (You may need to use the blade of a screwdriver to pry it loose).
Remove the electrical feed cover (red plastic) from the assembly by depressing the side clip.
Now, holding the asssembly in your hands, remove the lense cover top from the black bottom by depressing the side inserts.
Pull out the bulb, and replace.
Reassemble in the reverse manner.
The entire job should take no more than 3 to 4 minutes.
