Ignition Problem i have a 2009 efi t100 if you rev ythe bike from starting appears to fire one cylinder or missfire you can smell petrol from exhaust if you close throttle then rev again normally clears pops on over run and runs slightly unevenly had new plugs ignition coil and ignition pick up coil still the same any ideas since my local dealer seems to have none

I think you'll be allright. When I put TORS on my bike, I found that I hardly needed any extra jetting at all. I put in slightly larger jets and I am now running fairly rich, so i would think the EFI can handle it. Give your dealer a call maybe.

If it is backfiring on deacceleration you have a fuel mixture problem and need to "sync" the carbs.
Sync Pro carb tuner works well. This is a precise four channel vacuum indicator designed specifically for intake synchronization of engines with multiple carburetors or throttle bodies.
Also, if you have not done so, check your plug wires for defects and resistors, if your wires have them.

if three cylenders are running fine and 1 not with a wet plug, something is wrong with the one cable , its connection, shorting(make sure its not to close to the engine) or the plug

Ford focus 1.6 petrol white smoke and smell of petrol

I'm assuming this is not a diesel...

White smoke would be very unusual, it would usually be steam rather than smoke. If I'm right, then it will be dissipating very quickly unless it's in freezing temperatures?

To get white smoke AND the smell of petrol best guess is that it's a cracked cylinder head or head gasket allowing coolant into the cylinder, the leak is so bad that the cylinder is unable to fire so the raw fuel from that cylinder is being pushed out the exhaust, along with the water (steam).

An accompanying symptom would be running rough/chugging, most noticeable at lower revs. If you drive the car like this then you'll quickly damage the catalytic converters in your exhaust so don't!

I own a 1988 fat boy.started to missfire on the rear cylinder. have checked the leads /plugs/and single fire coil. start the bike up from cold runs real sweet.take here out on the road roughly 4.5 miles...

I would check the compression on the engine. It should be about a hundred pounds and there should be no more than 10% difference between the cylinders. The next thing I'd do is check the primarys of the coil. Your bike came with a dual fire ignition system on it from the factory so this means that the ignition system is not stock. This is where I'd be suspicious. The coil will have three terminals on it if it's a single fire coil. Check between the center terminal and the outer terminals. You should have 2-3 ohms resistance from the center terminal to one of the outer terminals. Check center to one terminal, then center to the other terminal. If this checks good, it may be the ignition unit itself. Take the cover off of the timer cavity in the nosecone of your engine and go for a ride. If this cures the problem, then you know this is it, getting hot and misfiring. If it keeps missing, stop by a Radio Shack or an electronics supply house and purchase a small can of "component cooler". Ride the bike until it starts missing and spray a bit of the cooler on the ignition unit. See what happens. It could be a vacuum leak as well. Might be the intake to head gaskets or the intake manifold seal where the carb plugs in if the carb is stock.

You need to run a compression test on the engine. The cylinder pressure should be around a hundred pounds or more. There should be no more than 10% difference between the cylinders. If the compression is low enough to cause it not to fire, you probably have a blown head gasket.

You didn't mention what kind of igntion system you have in the bike. If you have the original ignition system, it's a dual fire system and both spark plugs fire at the same time every time the pistons come up to top dead center. This means that one cylinder fires on the exhaust stroke and this is called a "wasted spark" system. Harley has used this type of ignition for almost all their Bit Twins and Sportsters for many years. If your bike has an after market single fire ignition system, the ignition system could be bad causing the missfire. In this case, you would have an aftermarket coil as well with three primary connections on it.

Hello , I have a 2000 dodge Durango v6 with a po305 code , I replaced basic plugs wires cap & rotor . It smells rich with fuel and has a little mis at idle . Any ideas as to why it would be running...

P0305 code is a cylinder #5 missfire. The codes last digit is the effected cylinder, i.e. P0305 is cylinder #5 and a P0302 is cylinder #2 and so on. A P0300 is a multi-cylinder missfire.
Thoery 1: Ignition system! If the cylinder is being injected with fuel and not getting spark, the un-burned fuel would simply be pumped out the exhaust system and can be the source of the fuel smell. Check the ignition system and the firing order. I know you said you already did this, but I have to include this for other people in the future who might be using this to help them with a simillar problem.
Theory 2: Bad injector! If #5 cylinder injector is stuck at full fuel (leaking badly due to an internal mechanical failure) it will be pumping way too much fuel into the cylinder for the cylinder to burn. The outcome is the same as before, it just pumps the raw fuel out the exhaust system. Just as before, compare 2 cylinders by inspecting the spark plugs of #3 and #5. If an injector is stuck, that cylinder spark plug will be soaked with fuel. Injectors cannot be repaired, just replaced.
Theory 3: Low compression! If #5 cylinder is low on compression it will not fire the fuel as it is injected. A simple compression test is needed to tell if there is a mechanical failure internal to the engine causing low compression.
Theory 4: Bad intake plenum gasket! The intake manifold has a steel plate bolted onto the bottom of it with a gasket called a plenum. This plate is inside the lifter valley. If this gasket fails it will cause a vaccume leak into the intake manifold that will create a lean mixture condition for the cylinder that is nearest the failed spot. This lean mixture does not light or burn effectivly and can cause an unburned mixture to enter exhaust manifold causing the same sympoms as above.
Obviously this problem needs further diagnostics to pin-point the source of the failure. These are simply starting points and there can be many other things that can cause this type of problem, but these are the most likely. Hope this can be of some help, have more questions? Just ask!

hi , check the following : 1 - old fuel or water in fuel ? 2- Drain the carbies 3- timing is out and need adjusting 4- Remove bowl from the carbies and give the jets a clean . try all this and let me know how you go .

I think you have worn internal engine parts. To much oil is getting past the piston rings. Try installing new piston rings and honing the cylinder walls.

My 2000 r6 has a bad missfire

You could take you bike to a shop and use a dynamic spark tester inline on the suspect cylinder and increase the gap untill a missfire starts accurring and this should be a minimum of 6mm gap.

A simple home workshop test (since you probably dont have this kind of equipment),is to remove the plug cap from offending cylinder,take up the revs and see if it is still miss-firing.If this stops the problem then because I assume you have already changed the ignition coil I would assume that this would not be an electrical problem as the coil normally feeds two cylinders(please correct if not your case)and it would miss-fire on the other cylinder in this case.

It would then only be carbs or valve issues.If you are at this point do a compression test on this and one other good cylinder..if they are both equal refit plugs(12.5 NM),remove carbs and service.
