Hi I have an 99 VFR800 15,000 miles. Everything is fine and the bike has been very well taken care of. My issue is a vibration I'm getting. Sounds like a piece of plastic flapping around, or a small bird caught inside the headlight fairing. Happens when you pull clutch in to a stop and seems to have to be in gear. It will flap at intersections for a brief moment then stop. Have not heard it in neutral. VERY intermittent. Hard to tell where it's coming from, and sounds like its in the front. Could however just be coming up the fork tunnel. Can't get it to do it on command. I can't figure it out. Everything is tight and all clips on. Any ideas? Thank You

Try tightening your front steering neck bearings. Most mechanics skip the adjustment during the 600 mile check up to save time but it does cause troubles like this down the road. Loosen the bolts on the upper triple clamp and slide it up enough to get access to the the bearing adjustment nut. Tighten it to the point of the steering about to bind and back it off a nudge. This should stop the mystery vibration.

BIKE DONE75000, WHEN/IF SHOULD IT HAVE MAJOR SERVICE REBUILD

The age old adage holds true here: If it aint broke don't fix it. :)

If the bike is still running good and you have taken good care of it there is no reason to overhaul it. There are many bikes out there that have done well over 100k miles and are still running strong. There have actually been dyno test ran on bikes with over 100k miles and they made better horse power than they were rated at from new. This is attributed to slightly looser bearing clearances with the engine being well broken in.

I would recommend overhaul if you start having problems. These issues would include, low power due to low compression, excessive oil consumption, excessive smoke from tail pipe, excessive fuel consumption. Even then I would recommend good diagnostics and if the issue is found to be internal then I would recommend an overhaul.

Hi. I have a 99 camaro 3.8l and I'm having some

Sounds like a fuel problem,You did the coils, plug wires and sparkplugs, that should of taken care of the misfire,You may have a EGR that stay open and doesnt close properly and it doesnt set a code why the ECM compensate for the false air.Now this causes rough idle, and smooth cruise with no misfire until you get to stop or idle speed. The map sensor this can also fail when warm especially if the vacuum it is suppose to get is not met. And a failing MAP causes a lack of power. A TPS failing causes a stumble and lack of power but no misfire.cansmo_184.gif

You're asking at what age the teeth start to fall out in a woman.
It completely depends on the care that was taken throughout it's lifetime.
Some women never lose their teeth because they care for them all their life, others have dentures at 20 years old.
Mileage on the bike is irrelevant if the engine was properly and regularly maintained.
If the seller is confident in the condition of the engine, he will give you a WRITTEN WARRANTY on the bike.
I would tell him that you plan to drive it back home, and at the extreme least, have him guarantee that the engine will last for that trip.
Personally I would ask for nothing less than a 30 day warranty.
If the seller is unwilling to provide any kind of WRITTEN warranty, I would be VERY leery of making the purchase, especially considering how far you need to ride it to get it home.

My 2011 fxdwg has a problem with rear rotor grinding into caliper assembly bracket. the rear hub has had all parts replaced as well as hub being rebuilt twice at 250 miles. problem has returned at 450...

If I were you, I'd request that a new rear wheel, caliper, and caliper bracket be put on the bike under warranty. If this bike is still under warranty and got less than a thousand miles on it and this kind of problem, no doubt about it I'd ask for everything back there to be replaced. If that doesn't work, call the Customer Service dept. at the factory. You should be able to get the number on their site. There's evidently something seriously wrong back there and I wouldn't have it. Claim that you're afraid to ride the bike for fear of the rear wheel locking up in the middle of a turn. Keep all receipts and document everything.

Good Luck

I have had the bike a month its done its engine break in its done 650 miles the engine seems to have lost a little power. ther is a bit of vibration all over the bike wich wasn't ther when i was riding it...

During break in, everything breaks in. Valves need to be adjusted, bolts loosen(check your engine mounting bolts),steering neck bearings need to be adjusted, carbs need tuning, etc. 600 mile check ups often include changing the plugs along with the oil. You need to go over the whole bike with a fine tooth comb, it's probably a motor mount bolt.
