HEAD GASKET SEALANT- Do they work? Products such as Thermagasket, Steel Seal, Blue Devil, Bars, etc? I have read a lot on the internet and it is like Bigfoot- THERE IS ALWAYS 2 SCHOOLS of THOUGHT! My 1996 Intrepid 3.5 engine will cost a bunch to have the head gasket replaced along with what else might be damaged. I just want to hear some sort of concensus. Pro Mechanics-you too check in please.

I had a blow head gasket on my BMW 6 cyl. and it was blowing white smoke and losing alot of coolant. After doing alot of research I found that all the other brands like blue devil, steel seal, KW and bars all use water-glass. The only company that does NOT USE WATER-GLASS is Dura-Seal. If you have aluminum heads it's very important to use a sealer that can flex with your engine's aluminum heads. The DuraSeal actually stays flexible! So I tried it and it stopped the smoke and overheating. No more coolant loss either. It's been running fine for over a year now. I would reccomend Dura Seal head gasket sealer to everyone... Great product! Also the tech department guys really know what they are talking about...

96 b2300 head gasket leak, low compression. Will bars, blue devil ork seal fix it?

As a general rule, if you have a head gasket leak, then is only one effective solution, and that is to remove the head, have the problem corrected (head or block or both machined), and replace the head. Sometimes, if you are lucky, it only requires the head gasket be replaced. Using any form of leak sealing method is unlikely to work, and if you were very lucky and it did work, it would be very short term. So, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you will need to have the head removed and repaired.

How to take off radiators

You are better off replacing the defective radiator. Automotive part stores sell different products to seal up leaking head gaskets and radiators. There are two, Bars leak tight and Blue Devil. Both promise to stop the leak and they will do the trick but can clog head gasket cooling ports and the heater core. You will hear both success stories and nightmares. My opinion is to fix it right the first time or not at all. I hope that helps, good luck.

Chev s10 1998 over heating water in oil can i do a quick fix with gasket sealer an still drive truck until i can afford to replace gaskets

Over the years I have seen quite a number of sealers advertised to repair gaskets etc. There are newer ones out that make the same claims (also expensive @ about $100). Though it is possible that they work, I have no idea for how long. As always, the best cure for a cylinder head gasket problem is still to actually do the repair.
Regardless of how you correct the problem, make certain that you drain the oil and filter or you will be looking at a bearing failure shortly.

I guess i have a broken head gasket, do you recomend a product called Steel Seal?

http://www.diyforums.net/anyone-tried-steel-seal-for-blown-head-gaskets-285608.html

you can try it, but read this stuff first. I'd recommend replacing it, but if you haven't the time or money, . . .it sounds like that a lot of people have had success with it. But you can't go wrong with a new gasket Fel-Pro permatorque gaskets are what I use.

Just started to noticed white smoke coming out of exaust pipe. Noticed smell of gas. Is this normal for a car this old

Looks like you have a blown head-gasket. The white smoke is actually your engine coolant mixing with your engine oil and being expelled as a water vapor. You need to take it into a repair shop Immediately.
