There are three parts to the charging system, the stator makes A/C current. Regulator/ rectifier changes the A/C power to D/C power so it can be stored and regulates it around 14.5 volts. the last is the battery. now the stator is under the LH side cover of the motor.
Worldofpowersports.com has the micro phish on your bike. when you go to the site on the home page click shop parts and then it's just as easy as clicking make yr and model.
Do you have a multimeter? test your stator before you go replacing everything. there will be three yellow wires coming out of the LH side of motor, follow those to the plug. with your meter check to see if any of the wires are grounded. use the ohm setting and it'll be easy.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Katana is not charging battery when it is connected in bike.

Hi, One thing you can do is put an off switch on the battery to stop the leak. What did you have done lately on the bike? ( new ignition switch or ??). Keep looking for all Grounds.

Put in a new battery but it will not keep charge

The problem is likely in your Alternator. Depending on the make, year, and model of your bike, you may be able to remove that alternator to have it tested - but it is not very likely that it is easily accessible ( my Goldwings alternator is super buried!) If you have a portable volt meter, you can clamp onto the battery terminals and start the bike- anything under 13 volts indicates a bad component in your alternator.
Best of luck!!

Overheated (3 hours gridlocked traffic), now pinging

put a multi meter on the battery, and check that the voltage when the bike is running is higher than when the bike is stopped, it may have spiked the regulator when jumped. I fit was jumped off a car the alternator tries to put out enough current to charge the car and this can stress the system

Battery not charging

It is either your regulator/rectifier, rotor/stator, or battery is bad and won't hold a charge. Get a multimeter and test the battery while the bike is running. You should get 12.5-13 volts at idle, and 13.5-14 at about 2500-3000 RPMs. If you aren't getting proper voltage, check wiring, but most likely a reg/rec problem.

New motorbike battery wont stay charged.

Your bike's alternator probably isn't recharging the battery. You can check output yourself if you have a VOM or have a shop test it.

New alternator (actually 2 new) no charge

Find a friend with a heated garage that you can use first off, then locate the short that may be causing all this. Unless you have a bad battery? If its more than 3 years old, replace it. Batterys are cheap. WALMART has em under 89 bucks for most vehicles.
