Battery light stays on after changing battery, alternater & plugin.

Is the system charging? You should have 14.2 14.6 volts at the battery. The charge light is controlled by the alternator internally. If the charging system is working, you could have a bad diode inside the alternator keeping the light on or a short/grounded circuit to the battery light

I have put a new alternater, belt, and battery in my daughter's 1998 Hyundai Elantra and it still want hold a charge. As soon as we give it a jump then we try to move the car it cuts off. I don't know...

I would have the whole charging system tested with a Volt Meter before you change anything else. You can test the Alternator with a Volt Meter while the engine is running. The Alternator should be putting out between 13-14 volts, anything less and you have a bad Alternator. Check all Battery, Starter, Ground connections for loose or corroded wires and tighten or clean as needed.

When i turn the lights on the car shuts off. 74 cadalina

This sounds like a low battery voltage problem, and the cause of this is a inadequate charging system. There is enough battery to initially start the vehicle and possibly keep it running for sometime. But, when you turn on your lights the headlights need alot of power and if the battery doesn't have it and the alternator doesn't offset the load, everything comes to a stop. Have the charging voltage checked at the battery terminals. You should get a reading within the range of 23.6 to 24.2 volts. The lower the voltage the higgher the charge amps and the higher the voltage the lower the charge amps. If the charging is at 13v or lower your alternater is charging at or near its output capacity and indicates the battery is going bad. On the other hand if it iis charging above 14.2, the alt. is not charging or too little outpuut and should be or needs to be replaced. It is important to have clean battery connections.
Above 14.2 = bad Altenater
Below 13,6 = bad battery
A bad battery will causr the alt. to overheat and fail
A bad alt will cause the battery to boil and overheat damage will result
Good Luck, _Ned_.

STALLS WHEN BATTERY CABLE IS PULLED GOOD ALTENATER AND BATTERY

If the vehicle stalls when you pull the battery cable loose from the battery the alternator can not be good because the car would stay running. You have an issue with the charging system, Possible voltage regulator which is in the alternator. Have the alternator taken of the van and tested a the parts house.

Alternater went out and I put a rebuilt one on. the hot wire gets hot and so does the alternater after you run the car a few seonds. also the battery light stays on.

I believe the rebuilt one is not good too. If the battery light stays on it means that the system is not charging. Did you connect all the wires the same way

Honda 1985 1200 Gold Wing

First have the battery(s) tested. A number of car parts places will do it free. The test must be under load. Voltage may be fine in a discharged battery. In a 1985 Gold Wing the problem may be in the ignition switch. have the switch checked out.
