not shut off, right, it reboots, but never actually shuts off. so the battery is bad. if the PC runs ok, no big battery the battery is bad. the all love to short why expect less from any relic battery.? and the RTC coin cell is too relic>? yah most geek shops cant fix thing , no ports to fix them.. after all no 2 laptops are the same, (sux in my book) buy a battery , if the AC pack runs the PC all day. ok?

I would suggest disassembling it, checking for breaks in any cables, loose cables etc, then assembling very slowly, checking everything as you go along, good luck.

a laptop DV7 connected to what, TV, no TV stated, must we beg? on my huge 55inch LG, i click on the LG input screen , the HDMI that is connected to the PC> HDM1,2,3,4, etc. then it works. using auto connects in HDMI are not reliable, its a bad design. you must force it. even on both ends. I have many HDMI connected to my TV , BR-D , even have a video server on mine, and more. so I must force them all , due to all are there running, and I must force mine every time. HDMI can be a pain this way. does you PC run normally, does your PC connect to other TV ok, does your TV connect to other HDMI devices ok>

If you could go online and just bypass the password what use would it be. Now you must do a full recovery to factory settings, this will erase all the data you have inputted and leave only the programs that were on the system out of the box new.

did you try holding down the (fn) key and pressing "num lock?"

if you are not using the power supply, please do so. some of the laptops will not power up if the battery is bad, but depending on the year, a replacement battery is not very expensive. if you know how to use a volt meter, you can check the output of you power supply to see if it is bad, if it is good, i would take the laptop and power supply to a service location to be tested. If the laptop is very old, consider replacing it, if not repair, depending on the cost.

Right click on desktop -> select screen resolution. Select identify. If external monitor is number 2, select monitor number 1 (laptops monitor) and from dropdown menu select "extend these displays" or "duplicate these displays". Select apply, picture should be shown on both screens.

how do you connect your pc with tv, with d-sub cable or with hdmi cable. If you use d-sub try to lower the screen resolution start with 1024x768.
