How can i find out what operating system my laptop came with originally?

It sounds like your laptop came with a OEM OS of Windows Vista, probably 64 bit. http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2008/siggraph/ds_elitebook8530w_mobileworkstation.pdf ^That is a link to your specific laptop if you described it properly in your question. As far as 7 goes, you can do an install of it. If your HDD is wiped, then just insert a Windows 7 OS disk into your dvd drive and the proceed to do an install. After the OS install you will need to install drivers and additional software to unleash the laptops full potential as a computer. I have added a video to aid your install. ( As a certified PC tech I recommend going with Windows 7 as an OS, its much better and safer than Vista)

My hp elitebook 530 is epoting no internal speakers and will not use any outside speakers

Check your volume controls and make sure you have them turned up and not on mute. Check your audio and sound devices in the device manager to make sure they are all working properly. You can right click on the megaphone at the bottom right near the time to adjust the volume and audio properties. You can also click Start/Control Panel and look for Sound and Audio devices to make sure the volume is up and not muted.

My hp elitebook 8530w with Win 7 32bit is shut off when I'm working in any application.

Sounds like maybe hardware, however if you are running the minimum amount of RAM (1gb) then that could be a issue depending on what all is going on in the background on your system. Could be a hard drive going bad also, really could be any part of your hardware. As it started happening after OS change, make sure that you have all your drivers installed and that they are all working properly. Just click the windows button (bottom left corner), then click CONTROL PANEL, then DEVICE MANAGER (Switch to small thumbnail view for easier operation) it will be on the 2nd or 3rd line down. Also when you installed your new OS did you UPGRADE, or did you do a CLEAN INSTALL? At this point if you UPGRADED I would just start all over and do a CLEAN INSTALL, fallow the instructions in windows 7 installation choosing the FORMAT drive 0 (your local disk) then complete the installation. After it restarts the couple of times and your actually on your account on windows 7. Choose the automatic updates, let these finish (reboot/shutdown as prompted) Then go to www/hp.com/downloads and find the drivers for you laptop (open device manger instructions above) and download all the drivers that have flags in your device manager. Then do Windows Update again, DON'T download Internet Explorer 9 at this time (ignore it for a few days/weeks) Also you can try this before all the above, as sort of test of your hard drive/file system. Power up let it boot, open up COMPUTER, right click choose PROPERTIES, then TOOLS, then click the check now button. When this opens check the other box (both box's need to have a check mark in then) It will tell you that it can't preform this as the device is in use, and ask if you would like to preform this test the next time your computer REBOOTS (choose YES and REBOOT) This process could take anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours if your HDD is damaged. Good luck hope this helps, let me know if you need more tips or come up with more info to pass back at me, so I can offer more assistance.

I had to get a new screen because my LED

Unfortunately, the only way to solve your problem is to take the laptop back apart and re-connect the wires, and _hope_ that the reason why they didn't get re-connected in the first place wasn't because they were broken when it was disassembled.

Laptop repair is not difficult as long as you _carefully_ follow all the instructions, be very careful how you disconnect the cables, and, probably the hardest part is keeping track of the screws. One way to keep track of the screws is to use an egg carton and write on the carton where the screws came from.

Take pictures before disassembly if you have too.

Here's the HP webpage that tells you in detail how to disassemble and re-assemble your laptop:

How do I unlock the keys on my elitebook laptop?

NO PC MODEL TOLD JUST ELITEBOOK (vast models) HERE IS YOUR ANSWER 1: NOT USING THE NUMLOCK KEY (sorry captain obvious ,harks) 2: DRIVERS FOR YOU KEYBOARD MISSING (are wrong !!!) I HAVE HP 8540W, AND IS ELITE BOOK AND IF I UPGRADE IT TO W10 (HP SAID ZERO SUPPORT) LOTS OF THINGS FAIL,. NOT JUST THE KEYBOARD, NOW MISSING THE W10 DRIVERS. SEE? NOT ONCE DID YOU SAY, W7,8,OR 10 We can not guess your OS, or its upgrade history ever. some of the errors I had, I cured, Not ALL, the security package HP is dead for every(finger prints malarkey) what I did for w10 was to down load all w7 drivers. then on each one (yes tedious,as heck) I installed them all SPxyz123.ext using w10 , compatibility mode w7 to 10. as Microsoft documents fully. if your read that i have list of all drivers for mine that work. just ask. that keyboard is 100% USDA HP custom , totally custom and HP on mine never sent w10 drivers to MS so PnP fails TOO. on mine there are no w8 , or 10 or 11 drivers all ,nor will there ever be any as HP told. all answers me ,USA only period.
