Why won't my portafilter stay engaged once the water starts dripping? It flies off and sprays coffee grounds, and this started last week. Stays in place only if I wrestle with the filter handle.

It is possible that the grind you are using is too fine and causing so much back pressure that the portafilter is moving, also possible that the group gasket installed need to be replaced, I have also seen this happen with damaged screens.

Rancilio Class 10 Espresso Machine. It is not reaching the right pressure, the water comes hot but there is not enough pressure for preparing an espresso. What could be the failure, the pump?

Question edited for clarity. Service manual in the link. Test water temperature and pump pressure. These machines need servicing every 6 to 12 months depending on use. https://www.google.com/search?q=rancilio+class+10+espresso+machine+service+manual ..

I need more temperature from my espresso machine

Often these temperature differences are solved by descaling. Do never use vinegar. One can buy citric acid crystals or powder (not the same as lemon juice) and dissolve that chemical in water. I buy it in the Chinese Mall. Do not make a too strong acid. Shops sell maintenance powder which is the same but that is quite expensive. Let the acidic water go in and through the coffee maker until it looks clear. Next rinse with water for quite a number of runs. You may see how strong the citric acid that you make is by descaling something else and wait for about an hour. Another acid to be used in coffee makers is lactic acid. Lactic acid is bought as a cleaning agent. Also very strong and to be diluted with water.

Rancilio Two-Group Automatic Classe 10 Espresso Machine. No software error message?

Question edited for a lot more clarity. Did you try a Power Reset so that the internal software operating system reloads? Pull the mains plug. Wait 10 minutes. Press and hold the Power button for 2 minutes to dissipate main board power. Plug back in and turn on. If that doesn't work, phone them up. https://www.google.com/search?q=rancilio+classe+10+no+software https://www.manuals.ca/rancilio/classe-10-sde/manual?p=128 ..

My Rancilio Rocky Burr coffee grinder w/doser is not grinding the beans they simply remain in the hopper

It is most likely that something is blocking the pathway to the grinder. As the Rocky is a direct drive grinder there is no gear that could be broken. Try to remove the beans from the hopper and inspect the pathway, move the beans that might be under the 'disk'. If that is not working you might have to open the grinder;
  • remove all coffee beans
  • unscrew the three screws in the bottom of the hopper
  • remove the hopper
Now you can see the grinder wheel and tell if it is turning normally. This might be a good opportunity to give the grinder a thorough cleaning. Do not soak it in water, just a stiff small brush (e.g. a toothbrush) is the best tool. And perhaps accompanied by a vacuum cleaner :) If you have been using very 'oily' beans for a long time they might have clogged the grinding wheels. Good luck, Villi 25504831-zsvhkg0xpx31cur0t5wvyfvo-4-0.jpg

I have a rancilio Silvia. when I turn on the button for the steam wand, as it begins heating up it sprays steam into the water reservoir tank. I have tried descaling and backflushing. Any suggestions?

My guess is the steam wand is clogged with milk. This is a common problem. Try a pipe cleaner or something similar.

Rancilio silvia suddenly expression is just gushing through and watery. Have tried finer grind but no better. Haven't changed anything.

First, I'm not a Rancilio tech but I have worked on similar models. *** All service should be performed by a qualified technician. The following is for information only *** * Usually one gets less water out of the portafilter rather than more (or faster). Check the amount of water on an empty shot. It should be between 1-1/2 oz to 3 oz (depending on your shot size) If this is a manual on/off shot then disreguard. * Fast pour is directly related to the pressure setting (usually 9 bar), Coffee amount, Grind size, and Tamp (or compression). You can check most of it by following the many examples given on you tube. Water pressure is a bit harder as you will need a pressure guage portafilter. * If your still having problems with fast shots then have your service vendor check and adjust the bar if needed. Aloha, ukeboy57 P.S. Check if your using the right portafilter, There are many types used for different purposes; Pod, Capsule, Single, Double, Tripple, Drip coffee (Americano), Back pressure adjustable, ect.

I have a rancilio epoca 1group. After I turn the steam wand off it keeps steaming. Would it need a new valve?

Hi Daren, You could replace the whole steam valve wand but you don't need to. The rubber grommet inside the steam valve is worn out and the tap wont close properly - that is why the steam is coming out. You will find these parts with a commercial rancilio supplier.

You need to contact a coffee technician that deals with Rancilio commercial machines. They would be able to trouble shoot. But it would involve a call out to investigate the problem.

Rancilio coffee machine .no water coming out of the group head . steam coming of the group head

Hi Ewah, If you are getting steam from the group and no water when you turn on the water button - then you may have a group blockage. The fix depends on the type of machine you have. If it is a commercial type - then call in a qualified coffee technician. If it is a domestic type like rancilio sylvia, the you could try to descale - maybe too late, but worth a go.JURA descaling tablets If when descaling, no water is coming from the group try leaving the steam tap open when asking for water. That way you may get the descaler liquid moving inside the boiler and it may clear the solenoid valve blockage. If no joy with that you may need to replace solenoid valve. 230V 9W PARKER SOLENOID Domestic machines need regular descaling to avoid group blockages.

My rancilio Kathy minuts. Away trip the gfi, also the grinder trip the gfi during the grinding.

Some GFI use spark detection and if you have one of those, you need a new gfi. IF not then you have current leakage in the grinder and it is dangerous to use and should be replaced.

Espresso pump fail

Unfortunately when pumps fail, depending on the design, it is due to either their internal membrane ripping, bearing or guide seizing, solenoid seizing or motor burning out. Have a technician install a new pump, or if you are qualified to replace the pump, find a supplier and buy a new one.

Steam coms out fine ..left

Sounds like the metering jet is blocked at the top of the group, or the tubes leading to the group are blocked.Either the top or the bottom one, both ends leaving the boiler and entering the group.
