My thermostat is flashing 240

Hi,

I was able to locate a manual for your unit.

See the link below:

http://demandware.edgesuite.net/aabh_prd/on/demandware.static/Sites-Appliance-Site/Sites-CompactAppliance_Primary/default/v1300218722880/pdf/ownersmanuals/rheem/RTG74IndoorOutdoor_owners.pdf

Then see page 33. The error code you describe is not specifically listed, and the manual advises that you call their customer service number for further assistance. This is the text for customer assistance:

Manufacturer's National Service Department at the following address:

2600 Gunter Park Drive

Montgomery, Alabama 36109-1413

Phone: 1-800-432-8373.

When contacting the manufacturer, the following information will be requested:

a. Model and serial number of the water heater as shown on the rating plate attached to the front panel

of the heater.

b. Address where the water heater is located and physical location.

c. Name and address of installer and any service agency who performed service on the water heater.

d. Date of original installation and dates any service work was performed.

e. Details of the problem as you can best describe them.
f. List of people, with dates, who have been contacted regarding your problem.

When spark start and burner lights up and spark

Hi there may be a number of factors involved with this appliance,
1. if you are opening a hot tap/faucet only slightly there may not be enough water flow to keep the burner alight. try turning on the tap alot at first then decrease the flow to your required amount
2. there may be a blockage or partial blockage in your gas supply.
3. water may have entered the casing and got into the electrical componenets of burner jets
And lastly if your Rheem unit is past its warranty & you can't get a service technician out to check it, then your last resort would be to get a qualified person to have a look at it

http://www.greatergoods.com/store/energy-savers/tankless-water-heaters/rheem-rtg-74-dvn-natural-gas-tankless-water-heater/prod_386.html
manual above.
I professionally recommend that you get a Plumber/Gasfitter, to check this over, as this isn't usual, and I wonder if there are not "Other" problems too... with anything that uses Gas one has a responsibility to the entire family to have it professionally checked over, in my humble view..

Tankless water heater water will

1) Read your manual

2) De-lime unit on yearly basis:
Search google and Utube for 'de-lime tankless'
They make special fittings that permanently attach to water ports so you can delime each year.
Research shows that reqular de-liming will not restore tankless efficiency.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Delime-tankless-water-heater.pdf

3) Typical manual shows temp information on page 22-23. Search pdf for 'temp'
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Rheem-RTG74IndoorOutdoor_owners.pdf

4) Read maintenance steps shown in manual
The word maintenance appears throughout the manual

5) Search fixya questions on tankless to glean information about your unit:
Older answers have more responses, and each seems varied as techniques succeed for one person but not another.
The quantity of unanswered questions and vague answers reveals why Rheem suggests qualified technician be added to your rolodex-wallet

I have a Rheem EcoSense tankless water heater that

1) The best place to find this information in your manual.
Typical Rheem manual in my files shows temperature is adjusted by pressing UP and DOWN temperature buttons on remote.

2) Manual says: Temperatures of up to 140°F
(60°C) for Light duty models and up to 180°F
(82°C) for Heavy Duty models can be
achieved with the MAIN (UMC-117) remote
control and a dip switch adjustment. Only
qualified service personnel should perform
this adjustment. Only factory authorized
remote control(s) should be used.

3) Typical manual shows information on page 22-23. Search pdf for 'temp'
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Rheem-RTG74IndoorOutdoor_owners.pdf

4) This information squares with what I heard before that trained service technician is needed to adjust water temperature.
I think Rheem does this since tankless will not achieve that rise in temperature if incoming water is cold.
BTUs put out by tankless burner has limit.
If incoming water is colder than certain temperature, then tankless cannot raise temperature quick enough as water passes through burner.

5) You might also need a tempering tank, to modify cold water in winter:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Tempering-tank.html

6) Suggest you also read the yearly maintenance required for tankless.
For example tankless are prone to lime build up and need to be de-limed each year with vinegar.
Lime build up will certainly affect water temperature.

Why is the controller UMC-117 keeps blinking c8?

C-8 error codes could mean anything from the fan not starting, a bad control board, or a blown capacitor. Best bet would be to call Rheem customer service and they'll ship part or suggest licensed contractor to troubleshoot and replace what's necessary.

Hi,
The best way to thaw it is to use a heat gun or a hair dryer....keep the gun back enough so that you heat it slowly and keep it moving all the time so you do not get too much heat in one spot....

No hot water--nocode given

Hi,

If you are not getting a code then that means that the heater is not even trying to light...
The trigger that makes the whole process start is the flow switch.
So, the water is going through but it is not tripping the flow switch to tell the heater to light.
I would say that the first thing to check/replace is the flow switch...
