1) Copy following link for Rheem tankless troubleshoot, including ecosense.http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html2) Probably needs new circuit board.3) Product manual usually give list of required yearly maintenance.Perform the maintenance, just like changing oil on car, and then service technician is familiar with your water heater and can count on your money each year around Christmas.4) For independence, reliability, cost, and convenience, don't buy tankless water heater, or any other expensive/complicated water heater that requires yearly maintenance, and generally cannot be repaired by homeowner. Raise temp above 120

Raising temperature above 120 degrees requires service call.Or change dip switch settings and risk voiding warranty and causing service call expense.http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html#temperatureEarliest versions of Rheem tankless 2006-8 let you set temperature up to 140 degrees F using remote. However the hotter setting caused error codes because the burner cannot keep up with both high temperature and large volume of hot water rushing through pipe. Especially in winter with cooler incoming water that must be heated more to reach temperature set point. The burner simply cannot keep up.So Rheem changed maximum temperature at remote control to tepid 120 degrees, which is not hot enough for folks wanting hot shower, or folks filling whirlpool tub because water in tub cools before tub fills. How to change from ºF to ºC on the UMC-117?

According to the 2012 manual, 'the LED display only shows F.'Bottom page 65. Yet the F temperatures are also shown as C in the manual.http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/How-to-set-Rheem-tankless-temperature.pdfYou probably have different model, or older model?.?Older manual (page 15) shows same temperature range with both F and C, but typical of Rheem, the manual is totally vague about settings and say that qualified tech needed to adjust temps beyond factory default range (with no mention of display showing C) ... which is safeguard since the damg product cannot always heat water fast enough to reach higher set points above 120F.http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/TanklessOutdoor_95_84_64X_UC_AP15318.pdfCall Rheem 800-432-8373 and give your product serial number and model number located on side of unit, and ask them.Don't forget to keep the product maintained to avoid common error codes.http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Rheem-CondensingTankless-maintenance-2012.pdf If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/gene_9f0ef4df2f9897e7

C8 76 is generally bad PC board. Call 800-432-8373
Just like a motherboard on your computer, the tankless PC board is operational center of tankless water heater.
Various sensors gather information from water pipes, gas line, vent pipe, and air supply to determine when to activate burner.
Most people understand that when their computer motherboard needs replacement, that computer will probably not work reliably again.

Tankless is basically connecting a complex computer to your plumbing and electrical lines and to a gas burner with a vent pipe to outdoors, despite knowing that plumbing lines, vent pipes, gas burners, and household electrical systems have plenty of problems on their own.

Age factor: When tankless is new and everything operates perfectly, the tankless works correctly.
And each tankless manual recommends yearly and monthly maintenance, just to maintain operation, the cost of which can exceed the expected 1-8$ monthly savings. And who wants to clean the water filter each month and delime the exchanger every year?
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Tankless-maintenance.pdf

Don't buy a tankless water heater because the only folks promising unlimited hot water and effortless water heating experience while saving money with a tankless are the tankless promotors.

Solve most tankless problems yourself, same day, any brand for about $350.

Before calling Rheem or service technician, open following link for troubleshoot resources including error codes, Rheem chat, typical required maintenance manual, and possible product manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Tankless-maintenance.pdf

Error codes are start point for troubleshoot.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/ErrorcodeTroubleshooting.pdf
Error 14 is 'overheat wrap fault.'
This can include venting problem, failed heat exchanger, bad safety circuit, gas problem.
Rheem does not have a service manual posted for this specific problem.

Additional information: Tankless water heaters consume large amounts of gas during combustion. The combustion burns away hydrogen and the remaining poisonous byproduct is vented into the atmosphere at each home day and night.
Byproduct includes acidic water vapor that condenses along the vent pipe and drips back down vent.
Each tankless vent pipe has a drain line that directs acidic water into household drain.
If this drain line becomes clogged, or if vent was not installed correctly, then water drips down into heat exchanger and can erode or crack exchanger.
The typical maintenance manual above shows steps that can solve many tankless problems before they happen.

Remote control error code

Hi Bob, sorry for the problem.

Error codes are a starting point for diagnosing problems, and the same error on one machine can have different cause and solution than another machine.
Open following link for Rheem troubleshooting resources that will be handy to keep on file.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html

Generally C7 is remote cannot communicate with tankless unit.
Your remote is connected by wire back to the heater.
You can turn power off, remove remote wires from connection terminals on tankless, turn power on, check if tankless works correctly.
If tankless works, then problem is the remote control, or wiring, or parts inside tankless.
Chances are good, the wires are not the problem.
New remote costs $99, but that may not be the problem, so instead of guessing, you should call a service technician.
Steps above could restore functionality and water heater will produce hot water at default temperature.

Also read manual for advisories, troubleshooting error codes, and required maintenance.
For example water filter should be cleaned monthly and heat exchanger de-limed yearly.
Tankless are maintenance heavy, and parts and service combined with maintenance makes these units a risky investment compared with expected $1-8 monthly savings from owning gas tankless.
Reading the manual can save some expense, and the link above is a good resource for people wanting to hold down costs.

Repair most tankless problems yourself, same day, any brand for about $330.

Have a rtg66dvn wont fire

Before calling service technician, open following link for Rheem troubleshooting resources including link for Rheem chat. They require model and serial number and may ask for the person that installed unit, and current service technician working on problem.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html

Normally you get error 76 when remote cannot communicate with tankless unit.

Use and care manual says do not take apart remote control.
The remote is connected to water heater with a wire, max distance 195 feet, so there is no battery.
Check that outlet supplying power to tankless is working.

New UMC-117 remotes sell for about $99.00.

The symptoms on your tankless could be anything from loose wire to bad PC board, or innumerable other issues including bad sensors. Or it could be something very simple. The same problem on your tankless unit might have different cause and solution than another tankless unit because so many internal and external factors affect these sophisticated machines.

Read your use-and-care manual and make sure that maintenance is done regularly. For example water filter needs to be cleaned monthly and heat exchanger de-limed yearly. The manual is fairly long but should be read entirely to best understand the complexity, and general advisories.
