If the Damper Switch loose contact will couse this problem,try to clean the contact of the damper switch and damper motor .

Those screws screw into the support plate mounted onto the wall behind the unit. would guess it is not lining up for some reason or the hole is stripped out. Would have to remove the unit from the wall to inspect the mounting plate and make sure the hole are not stripped out. Lookt at the end of the bolt. do the threads look clean and not pulled or stripped???

If it consistently runs for exactly 59 seconds, and shuts off, it's probably the control panel.

I've had a similar problem with a 1983 Sharp Carousel microwave. It turned out to be a faulty door micro switch, the contact didn't stay closed inside it for very long.

This sounds like a bad damper switch or motor. Double check the shut off time....... see if it's actually 59 seconds..
When you unplug the unit from the wall for 2 minutes then plug it bad in, you should be able to faintly hear a motor run for a few seconds. This is the damper motor running. This will verify that the motor is operating.....
Also, check the thermistor.

My sharp microwave convection oven (R-1870) runs for 59 seconds and stops. If I push start it runs for another 59 seconds and stops. How can this be fixedd?

It seems this has been happening over the last few years. I am a retired appliance tech. My 1870 also started the 59 second routine, Also in a motor home. Pure logic. Had to be the board. New board same results. So now I need to run down a parts manual and possibly service manual, and get the damper switch and motor refered to in earlier posts. Changing out the board was fairly simple. Dropping the unit to change out the other components sounds like it will be a tad bit more difficult.

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, either the switch or motor or the damper door may be binding. The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle. Sharp-made models stop after 59 seconds. Disassemble the set, take out the motor, and replace it with a new one in place.

Not super familiar with Sharp Microwave ovens Convection or not, but most microwave ovens can run into at least two reasons that they won't open and both require you to remove the cover over the whole oven - If the door has a push-button to release the door, you could find inside it has popped free of it's pivots and is not lifting up the latches on the door so you can open it, or is has actually snapped that latch. The other thing I have seen more on Panasonic microwave ovens and again moreso on the newer Inverter ovens, is that the latching assembly inside is attached to too thin a piece of metal and the metal actually bends - now your door and it's latching assembly and switches don't line up properly. In that case you will still need to remove the cover and do your best to realign the switch assembly with the front of the microwave so that the door can click in and out easily.
