This .PDF document does not specify it as the Model 5811 manual; however, it is nearly identical, right down to the control panel on top.

Before I posted this comment, I downloaded, saved and printed the .PDF manual, and then took it downstairs to give it a whirl. PERFECT! At the time of this writing, my elderly Oster Bread Machine, Model 5811, #BM-100 (J222) is whipping up my first large loaf of white bread!

Incidentally, we discovered our Oster Bread Machine sitting on a shelf in an old house we were given as an apartment community manager quarters. It was sitting with some other stuff slated to be hauled to Goodwill (or the dump)!

I spent the past hour surfing the net looking for an Oster Bread Machine Model 5811 manual. Other than a couple of site where I was asked to pay a fee to download a .PDF or .ZIP file, there was little else. A couple of sites that purported to be THE place to download the manual turned out to be non-existent or otherwise dead ends.

Hope this helps all you who have been seeking this manual in vain for so long.

So what exactly is the problem? Does it still switch off?

The heating element is drawing too much current. Needs replacement.

Yes it does, but after half an hour the bread will go soggy.

Could be too much liquid, too much flour or not enough yeast

TRY USING 2 TABLESPOONS LESS LIQUID. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU.

Unless your machine is leaking badly just reverse the ingredients so that the liquid is on top and push the start button right after adding the liquid. That way dough is formed right away and you won't have any liquid to leak out. You can do this until you find a new pan. They are available on ebay.

CookingCindy 1 Solution July 23, 2009 I have made the following recipe in my West Bend machine with great results. I just got a Sunbeam 5895 at a garage sale - it works great - just wanted a different "shape" loaf! I'm going to use this recipe in my Sunbeam - don't see why it won't work! Here's the recipe! 1/2 cup softened butter, cut into small pieces for good blending 1 cup mashed ripe banana (personal note: if my ripe bananas don't measure up to 1 cup, I add enough milk to make it 1 cup. Seems to be okay) 2 eggs, large, slightly beaten 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) 2 cups all purpose flour 3/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt Grease inside of pan and knead bar generously with vegetable shortening (I just spray with Pan Spray). All all ingredients in order listed above to pan. Lock pan into bread machine. Program for quick bread. After a few minutes of mixing, I usually take a rubber spatula and scrape down the sides and stir in any flour that has not been completely mixed. I didn't do this once and ended up with a loaf that had flour coated corners! Good Luck! Enjoy! Just follow the above recipe but if your using the Oster 5838 expressbake put the setting at expressbake 80min. It works flawlessly, also with the oster 5838 expressbake you don't need to use the rubber spatula to mix after a minute because it blends everything together nicely. Thanks bobert.

Hi,
There is a sealed bearing at the bottom of the pan. This allows the paddle to rotate. The bearing has failed and is falling apart. This usually happens with age or use. Time for a new bread pan. If you are lucky you can find one on ebay. Sorry for the bad news....Hank

You may have a bearing problem causing the grinding noise or the motor stator is rubbing on the housing

reach in with your fingers and bend the two little clips out a little until they grip your pan snugly. Start with 1/4 " and try that. If it doesn't feel snug go another 1/4 inch.... and so on.... until nice and snug...
