Lincoln Electric K1297 AC/DC 225/125 Stick Welder - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I have a Lincoln welder 255 square wave an I can't regulate the amperage
weld current output regulation on this machine is usually accomplished by voltage supplied across a 50 milli volt shunt that is usually connected at one end of the main rectifier, if this shunt fails, or if the connections are loose or damaged, you will not have current control, your control board may also have some issues
Upon removing the machine covers, if there is no easily seen damage, it will be best to seek out and take it to an LASF for repair.
How do I replace a polarity switch on a lincoln k1297?
The leads are soldered to the switch internally. I performed services like that for 18+ years and if you're not familiar with using a brazing tip and silver solder, I suggest you take it to a professional. It won't be easy and you run the risk of damaging your machine.
Lincoln electric ac/dc arc welder will not arc
Check the dial indicator. Sometimes if someone changes the amps while welding, there will be a break in the coil. It will work at a different setting as long as you are away from the break.
Welder is not sending strong arc
maybe its your volts too. make sure you are grounded properly and clean from debri's, strike the electrode like a match and keep the arc close to your work-piece. dont go too fast and make sure your not wearing to strong of a lens in your hood. gold lens number 10 are the best for 7018 rods.
Miller econotwin control stuck
Is the amperage adjust crank or the HF switch not working? To repair the amperage crank you need to buy a new shunt block screw @ $ 80.00 or make your own by threading 8" length of 3/8" BRASS rod (dont use steel). Can send pics of procedure.
How di i wire my
I'm assuming the cord is there and it's the flat 3 wire type. The center wire is the ground and the other 2 are the power. It doesn't matter which power wire goes on which blade, they are both the same.

Here is a Picture of the wiring Diagram that should be on the inside of the rear cover If this is hard to read Here is a link to the

I have a older lincoin
Yes. You ground it where the ground cable connects because that's where it gets it's ground from.
I have a older lincoin ac225s welder I got this
Hello, I was a little suspicious about the voltage on this unit. Forgive me if I am telling you something you already know on the power side of this welder.

The welder you have is a 230 volt single phase 60 hz. What you require is a 230 volt connection. The two line wires from the 230 are connected on either side of the switch. The ground has to be connected to the chassis / frame of the welder itself. I would not connect to the ground cable output, I would connect only to the metal chassis of the welder. This is to keep the welder isolated from the main power circuits in your shop.
I have a Dayton 230
Try Grainger.com/Dayton-Motor. I've had good results with grainger . Just have model number and part number if possible. They aren't the cheapest but I like dealing with them. Good luck and hope you have a good year.
The switch on my AC/DC
Hello,
Depending on what exactly is broken (it may just be a set screw), it may be repairable. Contact Lincoln
here and ask them for a parts diagram for the switch assembly. That will help you be able to disassemble, and identify what exactly is wrong.
Then you can make the determination if it is fixable or not. Sometimes, manufacturers will have trade-in or trade-up programs as well for damage products. Inquire about this too.
