KitchenAid KSM150PS Artisan Series Stand Mixer - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Kitchenaid KSM150 stir and slow speeds are running too fast
It sounds like the speed control plate is not correctly adjusted. If you take the back cover off of the mixer (it is held in place with a screw at the top) and try adjusting the screws on the back plate you may be able to get the mixer to slow down.
You will notice two screws at the top of the speed control plate:
If you turn the top screws one quarter turn, both equally then test the mixer it should adjust the speed. Please make sure not to over tighten or loosen these screws as it can damage the speed control plate! You should not have to mess with any wires attached to the speed control plate or the bottom screw.
If you need more information please see the service manual here:

It will specifically go over how to trouble shoot the mixer and how to adjust the speed control plate.
Please let me know if you have any questions

Kitchenaid Mixer will not lock
This sounds like an issue of beater to bowl adjustment, which can come out of alignment naturally over time and with use of the machine.
If the flat beater is striking the bottom of your bowl, this may cause the locking mechanism to loosen and may cause the mixing head to "bounce" during use.
Your Use and Care Guide will cover the "beater to bowl adjustment," which you can do at
home in a few minutes with a flathead screwdriver.
Hope this helps!
How do I replace the speed control lever on a kitchenAid artisan mixer
Remove back cap, remove white wire and black wire from lower corner of speed control plate, both on same side on adjacent terminals. Remove the gasket thing at the back as well.
Remove chrome drip ring from around planetary, knock pin out of planetary and remove the planetary.
Flip upside down on a towel and remove pedestal by taking out hinge pin (1 locking screw from underneath inside pedestal)
Remove all screws from bottom side of gearcase, 5 around planetaty, 2 in the middle and 2 at the back.
You can now seaparate the gearcases to get to the speed control lever which is held on by 1 screw.
Kitchenaid mixer squeaks
Right off, it sound's like a lubrication issue. Get the Service Manual at:

My 325 watt, 5 quart artisan stand mixer won't
By not working to mean that the planetary gear wont move? or does it just make a weird noise when it is on a low setting? If the gear is completely stripped the unit shouldn't run on any speed regardless if there is mixture in the bowl or not. Since I can't see the mixer I would say that there might be a slight tear in the gear which would only allow the mixer to get stuck on a slow speed where as on a high speed it is running fast enough to skip that particular tooth. I understand that the mixer is brand new but when it comes to mixers you can strip a gear right out of the box depending on the consistency of the batter you are mixing. If the machine is under a year old it is under warranty and you are allowed free service by an authorized repair center in your area.
Why is my pasta attachment spinning?
There is a pin on the tapered spindle that fits into a grove in the mixer. If the attachment is not pushed far enough into the mixer housing and screw is not locked down the attachment will spin. It is possable that ihe pin on the attachmen t is sheared off.
Stop the pasta attachment from spinnig
I am assuming that the whole attachment is spinning. To forestall this, make sure that the attachment is fully inserted in the attachment hub and that the small protrusion is seated in the notch just in front of the attachment knob and tighten the knob.
I can't get the dough attachment off my Kitchenaid stand mixer.
I have tried oil, filling up the bowl with soapy water and letting it stand overnight, pouring teapot after teapot of boiling water ove
Hi Georgette
You need to encourage movement between the beater and the silver shaft it locks on to. There is nothing that you can unscrew to make it easier. Get a can of CRC and try & get it around the silver shaft at the top of the beater plus you should be able to get a bit in that side slot where the beater engages with that driving pin. Rock (twist) the beater side to side and slowly the grip will loosen and you will be able to encourage it off. Once you have it off you will need to clean out the CRC and polish up that silver shaft. Next is the more difficult part, you need to polish up that hole in the beater. What you are trying to do is remove the build up of flour in the hole so that it is pretty much shiny in there again without being significantly bigger than it was originally. I use a rat tail (round) file to do this job, you are just removing the darker build up in there. When done a good wash and dry and it will be like new again. Keep the hole clean of flour and it may not happen again.
Why is my kitchenaid's ring coming off?
The drip ring is held on in a friction fit. If tapping it firmly back in place does not fix the problem, new rings are available -- do a search on the internet.
Well, I was attempting to replace my speed lever.
Hello Lora,
I understand that you took you speed lever out to replace it and you took the brushes out of each side of the unit. The reason that the unit will not start is more than like the brushes are not installed the proper direction.
1. Unplug the machine
2. Shine a light in the hole on the hole on the side of the unit. You will notice a notch or a piece sticking out.
3. Take one of the brushes (magnet looking things) put the notch and the cut out in the same corner.
4. Repeat the samething with the other side.
5. Plug in and check and see if it runs
This should solve your problem with the brushes. IF you have any more questions about this mixer please post it to this discussion.

Mixer bowl is stuck can not remove
I found a solution at kitchenaid.com. It says the bowl locks in the same direction as the rotating mixer moves, so slap the bowl with your hand a few times in the opposite direction, and then take vegetable oil and using a cotton swab line the groove of the bowl. Let it soak a bit, and then slap the bowl again and push it hard counterclockwise.
HOW DO YOU GET THE SQUEAKING NOISE TO STOP
You must indicate where the squeaking is coming from. If its only squeaking, move on. There's other people here with down time problems. It'll stop squeaking or stop running eventually. If it stops working, then write in!
