I also found a great (and short!) video from Kitchen Aid that really helped me see how to do it. Try this one - I thought it was the best:

Finally knowing there wasn't an "eject" button saved me many hours of looking, and the tip about using the handles of the plyers worked great.
It is really discouraging to think you can't just screw out a water filter, but it isn't you. The directions are misleading - they don't match what you're seeing, and it doesn't twist out easily - it has to be forced....and THEN it twists out easily.
Hope this helps. It worked for me when I'd completely given up.
