The compressor will not stop running
There are a few easy ways to troubleshoot this problem. The first thing you want to do is open either the fridge or the freezer and place your hand on the middle piece of metal that runs vertically from the bottom to the top. If this piece of metal is hot or very warm to the touch then you have a problem with your condenser fan or the airflow from it. To take care of this remove the bottom kickplate from the unit (the long piece of plastic down by your water filter.) This just snaps off from either side. Take a flash light and look at the coils underneath. If they are coated with animal hair or dust vacuum them and place your hand on the left side of the water filter and see if you have a decent flow of air. If the coils are clean, the compressor is running and you have no air flow then you most likely will need a new condenser fan motor.
If the coils underneath are not dirty and you have good airflow down there then the most likely cause is a low charge on the compressor. Basically the compressor keeps running because it is working too hard to maintain the desired temperature.
