GMC Denali 700C Road Bike - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Why does the expander on my handle bars always come loose
Remove the bolt and put a lock washer between the bolt and head. That or put some blue loctite on the threads. Just remember to have the head removed from the fork tube before the bolt comes out or the expander will come off in the forks.
Replace brakes for denali 700c
just go to a higher end brake pad that should work.First make sure the cable is adjusted properly, that could be the whole problem. Maybe you're just used to the bike now and are going a lot faster than you used to.
Where do you to install frame pump?
Thats were they go ,is and unscrew / screw back up .take water bottle cage out ,put the bracket for the pump,in top put your water cage ,put bolts back in , secure it and u should be good.the only reason you shouldn't be able to fit it ,is because is not for a bicycle .
When installing the front wheel,
It sounds like either a bent fork or a damaged wheel. To check the fork, rest the bike on a flat floor with no front wheel in, the handlebars should be in the normal position for going straight (right angles to frame), if the bike sits level, then the fork is ok.
To check the wheel, hold the hub and spin it a bit, you should see a big whobble if it is that damaged.
If it is just the wheel, you can take that back to the shop, otherwise you will have to bring the bike back, sadly.
Hope that helps.
The front gears are not shifting. How can I fix it? And also how can I adjust the brakes?
When was the last time you replaced your cables? If you have checked that every other part of the drive train is free from obstruction (eg. move the front deralieur with your fingers) then I would strongly suggest looking at your cabling. Once new cable are fitted then you can adjust the limit screws on you deraileurs to get your gear shifting nice and smooth. YouTube is full of useful videos. Good luck!
I had to replace my twist shifter cable for the
Those are pretty tough to replace... The shape of the plastic shifter case should be your guide- there's a little nook that the v-shaped metal sits in. I *believe* that the side with the little bump-out goes towards the middle of the shifter- but you could look for what's called an "exploded diagram" of your shifter online (use the numbers & letters on the shifter for your search). Then you have to line up the two parts correctly (with the number 7 on one part at the little white line on the other) and twist them back and forth just a little bit while you push them together. Sometimes those little guys are impossible to put back together once they've come apart. You could find a cheap replacement for around $25- or try used!Good luck!
How to adjust rear gears, unable to shift to 7,
There are at least 4 different adjustments that could be causing this problem... any bike shop should give you a free estimate. If you want to try the 2 easy adjustments at home:There is a cable that runs from the shifter to the derailleur (the part that the chain goes through right below the gears) which could be too tight. There is an adjuster barrel where the cable goes in to the derailleur. Using your fingers, try to turn it 1/4 turn to the right. Some models will also have an adjuster barrel where the cable goes in to the shifter, which you could try if the one on the derailleur won't tighten any further. The other easy thing to try is adjusting the limit screws. There will be two small screws on the side of your derailleur- one will have a "H" next to it and the other will have an "L". Turn the "H" screw 1/4 turn to the left.If either of those things cause your bike to make a crunching noise but still not shift in to gear, then try another 1/4 turn.Good luck!
My rear tire is not
Take the rear wheel off the ground (you could flip the bike upside-down to do this) and try to spin the pedals with your hand. Try spinning it backwards and forwards while you adjust the gears. ...If you adjust the gears while the chain is not spinning, the chain could get jammed. This could be your problem. If that's not it, then try grabbing the wheel itself to see if you can spin it with your hand. If you cannot, then it might just be hitting the bicycle frame or the brake pads. See if you can find the spot where that is happening. If you can, then try to adjust the wheel in the frame by loosening the nuts or the quick-release lever (just push it away from the frame) that holds the wheel on to the bicycle frame... then wiggle the wheel around just a little to see if you can align it so that it is no longer hitting anything. Be sure to either tighten the nuts or push the quick-release lever back towards the frame when you are done. (Don't wiggle it too much unless you want the wheel to come out of the frame!)If neither of these things work, you probably need to take it in to a bike shop. Most shops will give you a free estimate- they should tell you what is wrong, as well as how much it would cost to fix it.

if you have been riding it a whole lot then the solution is simple, the shifter cables going to the rear derailleur has started to stretch out (this is perfectly normal) and it will need to be tightened slightly to compensate for the now slightly longer cable, this can be achieved by either adjusting it yourself by rotating the quick
adjustment knob (the piece on the far left) on either the derailleur or on the shifter near where the cable enters the shifter itself depending on the model.
if it hasn't been used much it may just be a hard shift that pulled the cable in which case the cable clamp may need to be tightened on the derailleur in order to keep it from slipping further. that would be a 5mm hex bolt (most likely silver) that the cable runs under on the derailleur this should be tightened to keep the cable from slipping. (don't loosen it or the cable may fall out!)
I need to replace the
I'd advise you to consult a bike shop as there may some interactions between a given BB and a given crank that may result in chainline problems. If you work with them and they can't get the recommended parts to work they will have to make it right.
Why is your crank "very worm [sic] after little use"? Do you mean the chainrings (which are replaceable)?
There may be other things at work here that a shop might spot and resolve.
