What is error code e1?

The E1 displayed indicates the thermistor is open and needs to be replaced.

The connections can be loose but the most likely cause of an E1 error is a bad thermistor.

The dryer will not operate if the exhaust temperature drops below 18 degrees F. or exceeds 250 degrees F.

If you're comfortable and confident in your do-it-yourself skills and have access to a volt/ohm meter you can check and replace this part yourself.

The thermistor is available from the following: www.searspartsdirect.com

Enter your model # in the appropriate box to get a full parts break-down and diagrams.

To access the thermistor see the image below.

Remember to unplug the dryer from power first.

The thermistor will have a black and red/white wire on it.

You can check continuity across it with the meter and if the circuit is open then the thermistor needs to be replaced.

When the thermistor circuit is open (>50K ohms), the error code E1 flashes in the display.

When the thermistor circuit is shorted (

Normal thermistor resistance values:
60 degrees F. - 15.3K ohms.
70 degrees F. - 11.9K ohms.
80 degrees F. - 9.2K ohms.

The thermistor -may- check ok when cool and freak out when warm!

How to access the start switch on a Kenmore 70 series dryer

The start switch on a Kenmore 70 series dryer sits directly behind the button you push in to start the dryer cycle, and it can occasionally go bad. Accessing this switch for repair or replacement is relatively simple; just follow the steps below. (These instructions were written specifically for the Kenmore 73742 heavy duty dryer, but they should apply to all of the dryers in the Kenmore 70 series.)

1. Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet.

2. Pull the dryer away from the wall so you have enough room to get to the rear side of the dryer.

3. Remove the rear access panel. This panel sits horizontally along the upper rear side of the dryer, and it is held in by six slotted screws. Put the screws aside, but do not lose them.

4. The start switch is located on the far left side (as you are looking at the rear of the dryer). It is a small black box with wires coming off of it. Disconnect these wires, but note which wire connects to which terminal for when you reattach them.

To remove the switch and button assembly as one piece, you'll first need to remove the knob from the front of the dryer. You should be able to pull the knob straight off, but if it's tight a pair of pliers might help. The round white plastic piece might come off with the knob; put it somewhere safe so you don't lose it. Then go back to the rear of the dryer and pull the black plastic tab (sticking vertically away from the switch) toward you to release it, and rotate the assembly clockwise until it pulls free from the panel.

To remove the switch from the button and housing, use a small flathead screwdriver to pry the switch up. Two of the four sides are tabbed; pry these two sides up to release the switch. There is a spring that sits behind the start button -- be sure not to lose this spring.

Kenmore 70 series electric

As the push switch is sitting in its housing, the two red and white wires connect to the top contact (the one that splits into two). You should be able to tell which is top and which is bottom by the way they have routed themselves over time.

The black wire connects to the bottom contact, and the plastic clip connects to the side contacts (the left side as you are looking at the front of the dryer).

You can verify the connections on the diagram on the inside of the rear panel, which you should always do before connecting the wires and turning the dryer on.

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Dryer now makes whistle/humming sound when drum is

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication, or maybe your drum belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Also remove the screws holding the lint filter in place and remove the filter.

Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Note: Some of the lids tilt backwards where you do not have to remove the top.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

Kennore 96561230 dryer no heat

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems to be the Thermal fuse that has gone bad. The thermal fuse is mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. When this fuse goes bad it should be replaced as it cannot be repaired. You can test it for continuity between its two pins, no continuity means bad fuse. If this is fine then you’ll need to check the thermostat, igniter and coils. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
