Kenmore Dryer will not start

My wife fininshed a load and the next one she put in dryer, the dryer did not start. You have to continue to push button to make it spin. The vents are clean. Model # 110 70972990 - gas dryer. Also, where in the dryer is the part that is in need of repair. Sorry, I'm just a beginner in trying to fix my home dryer. I'll try it first before calling the repair man.

My kenmore model 417 electric dryer runs, but doesn't heat up, for about 12 minutes, then it shuts down and the four vertical green lights on the right of the machine blink on and off repeatedly. I cleaned out the entire exhaust system but machine continues to do the same. Any suggestions?

the thermal switch is located on the back of your dryer. YOu will need to remove it....you will need a 1/4 screw driver...then look towards the boottom of the dryer...the thermal fuse...its a white looking piece with 2 terminals on it...it is really easy to replace it.but you can also check continuity. and if you do not have a tester.

1) unplugg the gas dryer
2) connect the 2 terminal together.
3) DO NOT hold it when you plugg it up..
4) plugg it up and check too see if your igniter comes on...and wait for the flame.

if you follow all these steps and your dryer still does not work. check your igniter.

My Kenmore 90 series dryer won't heat

I have removed the front access panel but cannot locate the thermal fuse and I do not have a manual.

The thermal fuse is going to be located on the heating element housing. When you take off the front panel you will see your lint screen housing. You will need to remove that to get to the element housing. Once that's out of the way the thermal fuse should be right on top of the housing. It is small and has two small wires coming off of it. The wires should be different colors. Just don't get it mixed up with the thermostat. Just match it up with the new one that you have. It is held in place with two small screws. Let me know if you have any other questions or still can't find it, also let me know if this was helpful. Good luck and glad to help out.

On my 7 year old Series 90 Dryer, I
- unplug the dryer
- use a flash light to locate the two black metal spring clips (located about 3 inches from each end of the lower panel along its top edge). They can be seen in the crack between the upper and lower panels.
- use a putty knife, or similar tool, to press down each clip while pulling out that edge of the panel.
- The panel slips off the lower clips easily.
- on some models there is a lone yellow wire with a connector on the end. If it is unconnected to anything, don't go nuts thinking that you have disconnected a wire by accident. Its one of those unused wires on some models.
- collect as many coins as possible before you vacuum the inside of the machine. Leaning the machine forward can often slide hidden coins to the front. BE SURE YOU CAN LEAN THE MACHINE WITHOUT HAVING IT FALL ON YOU. Otherwise, plan on collecting the coins from the vacuum cleaner when you finish.
- replace the panel by first threading the panel on to the lower clips, then closing the panel. CLICK, CLICK. FINISHED.

Congrats you have cleaned it, possibly avoided a house fire and added to the mad money collection. Hope this helped.

I have read other places that if you have recently painted, stained, varnished or used something in your house that has some sort of oil base it can make you dryer make your clothes smell like Kerosene. My dryer started doing the same thing and it was at the same time that a contractor was staining some trim in our basement. Good luck.

On the Kenmore series 90 electric dryer, where is the thermal fuse located.

The Thermal Fuse is located on the air blower housing. Its a small white plastic component with two wire leads.

The Thermal Cut-Out (TCO) is located on the outside of the heater box on the end opposite the heating element terminals.

The reason I mention both these components is because some people confuse the two and use the words interchangeably. There is a difference between the two components and what they do.

DOUBLE CHECK YOUR SYMPTOMS:

If your dryer does not run at all, check your Thermal Fuse.

If your dryer runs, but does not heat you need to check the Thermal Cut-Out.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know what symptoms you are having. Please include your complete model number (located on a nameplate around the door opening) so that I can determine how your dryer is configured. I hope this is helpful to you.

Do I need a high pressure regulator between the gas supply and my gas dryer?

Answer

Good day,
There is a pressure regulator built into the gas valve, so no, if you mean an external pressure regulator. If the dryer had previously ran on propane, then the valve would have to be converted back.
I'm assuming your using a standard gas line with gas supplied by a normal utility company.
