Bowl Repair

A body shop (automotive) can get rid of the dings, but re-tinning is the trick.

You may consider purchasing a bowl. For example, I could get you a new 80qt bowl for under $500, and a 20qt for under $150.

What is your location? If I can help, let me know.

Previously hard wired. How do I connect a power cord?

It doesn't really matter which wire goes to L1 L2 or L3. All that can happen is it will run in the wrong direction. If it does just interchange any 2 of the L1 to L3 connections and this will reverse the motor.

Hobart D300 is stuck in speed 3, any ideas?

Best guess is that the gear for 3rd speed is seized together with it's brass bushing and the center, large transmission shaft. I don't recall which gear is for 3rd, but the transmission has two gears (2nd and 3rd speed) which have brass bushings in them. The brass bushing should spin freely on the center shaft (when in final position - sometimes they pull off the shaft tough, but spin freely when in final position, my opinion is that this is OK), and the gear should spin freely of the brass bushing. My guess is that the 3rd speed gear, being seized to the center shaft, cannot freely idle on the center shaft, which would result in being stuck in 3rd gear.

Shaft stops spinning in first gear when load is put on it, all other speeds fine.

Here's what you need to do first. Check and make sure the bottom nut on the agitator shaft or planetary shaft is tight (This is the part that the attachments afix to). NEXT, take off the lid exposing the top area. THEN tighten up the largest nut (TIGHTENING is in reverse! SO - TO tighten turn nut to the LEFT). When the nut is tight, then turn on the mixer in 1st gear. IF you still do not have 1st gear, then turn off unit and THEN loosen (By turning to the right) this nut by a 1/4 turn or so, then turn on mixer again -- check for 1st gear. If after loosening this nut to where there is no resistance at all and you still do not have 1st gear, then you may have a sheared KEY on one of the gears that controls 1st gear! Did you hear anything pop or break before this happened? Let me know.

I suspect my D300T Hobart Mixer has a broken shaft

Hi. Go to hobartservice.com, register for free. This will allow you access to the parts files for your D300T mixer. Download them. When you begin your disassembly, take a photo of every piece that you remove, lay these pieces on a piece of cardboard or something suitable in the order that they were removed. This will help you greatly with your project. Good luck! ricardok45

Hobart D300T mixer oil change.

You can put in a all purpose grease. I use MOBIL 1 Synthetic Grease (RED IN COLOR) and it works fine -- you will need 3 tubs of 16oz's each tub. The cost is 30.00 or so. Make sure to get all of the old grease out and pack around each of the trans and worm shafts with the grease, then pack around the MOTOR GEAR and then put all back together. While running it make sure you can see the grease and hear the noise of the mixer through the 2 caps that are FILL caps on the head of the mixer. ALSO, you will find that you will lose 1st gear IF you have tigtened down too much on the LOCK nut, SOOOO loosen in small increments until all 3 gears are perfect and strong. ALSO, the key to noise adjustment is to Tighten (WHILE MIXER IS RUNNING) slowly the large nut that controls pressure on the worm transmission. The general rule with tigtening this nut is to tighten it till it will not tighten and then back off the nut -- IF the unit when starting does not run or it seems bound up when you first turn it back on, THEN you have tightened it TOO MUCH, SOOO back it off again (loosen it) until it starts smoothly and when you turn the mixer OFF it should come to a slow stop and not abruptly stop the mixer. Hope this helps some of you out there trying to do your own adjustments --

My D300T motor is turning but shaft is not. How do I open the shaft area.

Weird sound usually means something in the gear box. I found a copy of the manual which includes many exploded drawings; perhaps something in here might help: http://www.bakedeco.com/ebay/pdf/HobartD300.pdf

Mixer is dead

If this is being used in a commercial setting (I presume it is as it's a D300) the first things I would check is1 outlet / breaker box /main electric panel2 Cable from outlet to mixer if the outlet is hot3 Timer Start Stop switch4 Motor capacitor5 Motor (this is ugly as it has a number of electric parts that could have gone bad)That's the best I can do without further clarification. How did you find it was dead? Did it die while it was in use? Did it make any strange noises? Did it smoke? Do you get any response at all when you turn it on? My first reaction if the cord and outlet are good then I would be looking to the On/Off Timer control switch. It is the most logical if the mixer has not had any other instances of smoking lagging struggling with mixes or advance warning of a problem. It is the most likely answer that a contact is not working. Press all switches and buttons to see if any feel stuck in place. It may be that you only need to open the switch panel and clean out the flour and other gunk. I hope this helps, if so let us know we love hearing from you about a good solution.
