The "Cold-to-Coldest" adjuster in the freezer steals chilled air from the refrigerator to add more to the freezer. It's a mechanical damper. Set it fully CCW to cold (warmest position). I also put duck tape over half the chilled air outlets in the freezer to increase the chilled air pressure feeding the refrigerator section. Set the thermostat in the refrigerator to 8 or 9 and the freezer works fine and everything in the refrigerator is 38F.

Hello there,When your refrigerator starts building up ice at the back of the refrigerator and is not getting cold, the problem actually is caused by defrost settings of the refrigerator.The defrost settings is composed of the defrost thermostat, defrost heater and the defrost timer. If any of the three should go bad, then the refrigerator would begin to build up ice and not cool.You will have to test the defrost thermostat, heater and timer. Mostly the problem used to be the defrost thermostat.Once you check the three and see that they are okay, then you need to refill the gas cylinder with refrigerant.Clean the condenser coil, refill refrigerant and test the thermostat, heater and timer.That would get your refrigerator up and running.All the best.Elect_Comp

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very,very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system.The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater,heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

You can get it at Johnstone Supply or similar store for less than $20. You will only get the motor, don't throw away the fan blades.

I had the same problem, and it turned out to be a cooked fan motor.
I couldn't find a reasonable (less than $150) replacement motor from Haier places, but I just took the motor out and took it to an appliance repair center (in North Denver)
They said it was a standard part, charged me around $22 for a new one and I was all set.

For my replacement motor, it was a reversible design, and was initially set to go the wrong way, so I had to reverse it.

The compressor and Freon are all one sealed unit,never heard of a separated system. by turning it on you will just drain the rest of the freon.

Go to an electronics section of Walmart or Target, buy a can of "CleanSafe Dust Remover" compressed air in a can and try to blow the drain clear from the freezer portion. If that doeasn't work, let me know.

haier refrigerators have been known to have the cold control go bad. it only sense's the temp in the fresh food section so that would be why the freezer is still ok. The problem is the control is cutting out to fast and not letting the temp go lower. from what you said i would take that there is good air flow between the freezer and the fresh food compartment. so the only thing it could be is the cold control. I would replace it and you should be all set.

the fan may be jammed due to ice build up. in the first instance i would give the unit a full defrost for 48 hours then see if the fan starts after, if not the fan motor may be u/s.

Steve, Have checked around the web for parts..ie temp sensor, control board, which would cause your problem if defective, and there are no parts avalible. NUTS!

Ckecked around for the fan, parts for this unit are few and far between did locate some on ebay so head over there. Cuz there were quite a few but without seeing yours I couldn't match up what I was seeing.
