I unplugged my chest freezer to clean it out, when

Try turning the thermostat down to O and then back to max a few times this may free a stuck bimetallic strip. If this doesn't work and assuming you haven't damaged any components in some way then all that may be required is a new thermostat.

Hi,
Could be...try jumping the t-stat to check that out and then check out these tips for more info..

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

I have Haier 5 cubic foot chest freezer, model #

Yes it does. It will have to be blowing inside so look in there. You will have to take the cover off.
Sometimes they stick and need a shot of WD 40 and then work
it back and forth a little until it wants to take off again. Keep me informed
and PLEASE give a Thumbs Up for the effort. The Raz Shack

The freezer does not keep a constant temperature.

Hi there, just happened to see you as I was signing off. I am a refrigeration contractor, so this is something I would do. Mainly commercial units, same concept but different controls is all. Anyway, I will have to ask you questions as we go that you can get back to me on, with my user name. So, how old or new is the unit and when did you notice when this problem started?? We know that the compressor is working, but how good. It comes on and runs, but does it freeze at all before it starts to warm up? Once the compressor comes on when the cold control/thermostat calls for cooling, it should run until it reaches the desired temperature and the compressor will cycle off. Once it has frozen everything and shuts down, it will cycle on and off as needed to maintain this temperature. On a freezer, they have a defrost timer and defrost thermostat located in the system also. What I would like to know is the age and condition over all of the unit, to determine if maybe you have a small freon leak which does happen. Somethings you can check, is to pull it out to get behind it with the thermostat set to its coldest setting. With it unplugged, you should have a lower panel that you can remove to expose the compressor, the condenser coil, and coil motor. See how dirty this coil is as far as lint and dirt that has built up on the front of the coil. Clean it with a stiff bristle brush, not wire. It has to be clean for this motor to pull air back through it to keep the internal head pressures down on the unit. After you get all clean, plug it in as the stat is already to go and see if the compressor and this condenser fan motor comes on and runs. If the motor does not run, this will be your problem as it will be at fault and need replacing. Just spend some time back there and watch to see if the compressor continues to run. The air that you feel this motor pulling through the coil should be very, very, warm! If not, this indicates a loss of freon, and you have a leak. Try and time the compressor to see how long it runs before it shuts off only if the little motor is running, if you are up to it. It is difficult for me to tell you everything to check as we are limited on what you can do. I wish I were there. Anyway, let me know the things I have asked of you to do if you are able. You may just have a faulty thermostat control. We will go there later. Get back to me to let me know what is happening and if it freezes solid before it starts to defrost, and how far it defrosts, like all of the way.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS, I have to run for an hour or so, but will check as soon as I return. Good Luck

Haier HCM050WA, not cooling, compressor very hot

Try replacing the compressor relay , if this doesn't solve the problem ,probably the compressor is jamed or burnt and has to be replaced.

I have a GE chest freezer and the exterior green

Is this just a "Power-on" light to let you know it's plugged in and has power? This is probably just a "neon" (although the actual gas inside is hydrogen for the green color) bulb and sometimes they will do the flickering thing literally forever. In a way it's a good thing as it makes you look at it. If it really concerns you, or if it is actually a warning that something is going wrong (it should say in the manual, you DO have the manual don't you?) have it fixed under the warranty.

Quit working -Haier Freezer

You have one of three issues here.
Either the thermostat has gone bad,
The thermal cutout has gone bad ontop of the compressor,
or the capacitor is out for the compressor.

Take an hom meter and check the thermal cutout, it should read 0 ohms or "continuity" if it doesnt the cutout is bad.

The only real way to check the cap is with a cap meter.

as for the thermostat check it with a n hom meter to make sure you have good connections internal the thermostat.

If you have any other questions just let me know!

My freezer is about 2

Hi ndntwiggy,
Ngafm at your service

Your said, your freezer is about 2 years old, but has been in storage for about a year and a half.
And the green light comes on, and the motor is running, but it will not get cold or even cool.

When a compressor is not run for more than a year, or 2 years there is a possibility that the seals dried out from non use and the freon leaked out.
Compressors have oil in them that when run even once a month will lubricate the seals and keep them soft and moist! .
Just like in the older cars from the 1960's or 70's the air conditioners had to be run once a month even in the winter to keep the seals lubricated or they lost the freon!
Then they started to make the defroster turn the compressor on as to lubricate the seals every time it rained or snowed and you needed the defrosters and this serviced the compressor as in todays cars.!
So you need service to fix it and more than likely it's out of freon refrigerant .
Let me know your end results.

Haier 5.0 cu. ft. HCM-050 not freezing

Unfortunately this sounds pretty surely like you need to get your freezer checked for leaks and re-gassed; control on refrigerants these days makes it very difficult and probably illegal to try and do this yourself, but any refrigeration repair guy should be able to do the job. slight worry is that the compressor could have seized, but this is not so often the case, sometimes a sharp whack can unjam a compressor, but get the fridge guy to look at it if he does the gas. Hope this helps :)

Compressor problem

The click your hearing is a thermal cutout that is kinda like a little breaker, it gets to the temp that it is designed for and trips. If its making a high pitch noise, more than likely the compressor itself has gone out and needs to be replaced, its getting a high load and triping the thermal cutout.
