Seems like your blower motor is burning up. Its the motor that blows cool air across the refrigeration coil. If it is a whole house ac unit, probably your main blower motor for the furnace. If you are getting sweat, that means the compressor is compressing the refrigerant, and you should not smell anything from the outdoor unit, only from the furnace. Hope this helps.

Have frost on the compressor suction line moments after start, compressor unusually loud and labored, and overheating, means the system has been overcharged.

Sounds like your heating elements are coming on with the A/C This can be from an improperly wire thermostat or furnace.

Fan may need a new start capacitor. It appears or sounds like the motor is not getting the puwe it needs I don'y know what "not fast enough" is to youm but those fans really dont turn very fast, There should be two fuses in a box near the outside unit/ One can bbe bad causing low power to unit. To ck the, There should be something on the fuaw to indicate it's blown. WARNING!! dO NOT TRY REMOVING WITHOUT TURNING OFF ALL POWER AT THE MAIN HOUSE SUPPLY CIRCUIT BREAKER, hIGH VOLTAGE CAN AND WILL, GIVEN THE CHANCE. iF IN DOUBT, CLL OUT A QUALIFIED SERVICE COMPANY.

Could it possibly be a gable fan running and not the A/C? If you have a gable fan it is a high possibility.

Open the service panel outside and check the capacitor it looks like a tin can, check for any swelling, it will be very visible. Look at the size usually it will be a 40/5 or 35/7.5 mfd. Go buy one they cost like $15

Do you have a meter? Either the fan is bad or the capacitor is bad. Ohm out the fan and then the capacitor. Be sure you take the disconnect out of the electrical box on the side of the house and or trip the breaker off. The capacitor is a dual run one side operates the compressor and one side operates the fan. I would really bet on the capacitor being bad. Have seen that a lot in my experience. Be sure to make note of the wiring of the capacitor before you take it out to check and if you are not sure how to check it take it to the parts house and they can check it.

However, if it is the ORIGINAL motor, check the dual run capacitor for proper microferrad value. It may be that it is swelled up on top and that is a direct indication it is a fouled capacitor. If the top is not pregnant or swelled, and it still looks like the top of a soda pop can, you will need a microferrad meter.
Disconnect ALL power to the condensing unit. If in doubt, kill the power to home. Remove 1 wire from the capacitor, the brown one or the one that is marked "FAN" and set your meter to Mfd, measure with your leads the value between the COMMON and FAN terminals. They should be within 6% of the rating on the capacitor. There is no rule of thumb here, you must know the correct value and see if it is equal or within the 6%. If it is under the 6%, you will need to replace the DUAL RUN CAPACITOR. No question, because it is a dual run cap, it controls the Compressor also. Best to change the whole capacitor with that of equal value.

Disconnect the white wire from the "thermostat". If the strips stay on its your thermostat wires.

You may not be getting power to the contactor to the outside unit. Look for broken wires. Usually small in diameter. Dogs and critters love to chew on them.

look at the wiring diagram.

there could be a short in the wire. meaning that its not getting the proper voltage. do you have any other symptoms? make sure that the breaker is not tripped, and if it is, it very well could be from the dogs eating at the wires. that could also kill your dogs if they get hit with that voltage coming from the wries.

you have lost all control voltage. that is generated in the furnace. either the transformer has failed or the fuse in the transformer board has blown or the circuit breaker to the furnace has tripped or you have an open circuit to the furnace in the high voltage wiring. grab a volt meter and start with checking high volts at the furnace and back to the panel. if you have volts then start checking to see if transformer is generating low volts. as a side, if this is a furnace be sure the door is on secure and the door safty switch is depressed or guess what! no fan no volts no nothing. if any lights on board are flashing etc then you have power and it becomes a control problem. be sure your low voltage is getting sent to the stat via red and common on the furnace terminal board. good luck

Rain should not affect an outdoor unit. It is designed to be outside. The motor that you are hearing... could this just be your compressor running? If the condenser fan is not operational the compressor will run much louder. TURN THE POWER OFF! See if the fan will spin freely if it is pushed. If it doesn't replace the fan motor. If it does you need to check the power at the contactor going to the condenser fan motor. This is 220 volts BE CAREFULL.. If power is going to the motor and the motor is not running... Change the motor and capacitor. If no power is going to it it could be a bad contactor.

Do You have a volt meter? You might not be getting low voltage to the coil. Make sure your two wire coming out of the house is not broke and connected to the coil on the contactor.

most likely the heating speed relay on your furnaces IFC board has failed.Unfortunately the entire IFC must be replaced to repair this. you are in need of a professional service tech. The same control handles the blower fan, ignition system and safeties. Not a do-it-yourself repair as wires in the wrong place could cost you a house.

That's a weird problem. I wonder if the outside compressor is drawing down the voltage in the breaker box enuff to keep the blower from starting up. If you're set to cool but the thermostat is NOT calling for the AC, can you manually turn the blower on fathfully? If so, I would check all wiring connections in the breaker box to make sure they are tight and free from tarnish or corrosion. You may even need to contact your power company and have a higher amperage line installed outside. Do your house lights blink noticably when the compressor kicks on?

While you're resolving this, you could start the blower manually and just leave it on. The compressor cycling on/off shouldn't stop the blower once it's running and it won't draw much current... couple bucks a month maybe.

If you can spin the fan blade with a screwdriver or something and get it to take off you probably have a bad capacitor. If it will not turn then you probably have a bad motor.
