the solution to this problem is to BOYCOTT LEXMARK. The quality of their printers is inferior to others such as Canon and HP and Lexmark ink is by far the most expensive of any printer I have owned. They are trying to eliminate refilling by the circuitry in the cartridge so they can resell the used high priced cartridge again.

You should check the presets of the printer and the printing history by clicking on the printer in the right corner. There if there are any processes please cancel them by right clicking on them and selecting the cancel option.

The paper should be placed at the top, back part of the printer. The paper should be in a standing position. The exit tray is the one at the bottom of the printer.

Could you please confirm if your printer is visible from "Devices and Printers" and definately not greyed out? If you send something to the printer does it sit in the print queue? If so what status does the document have?

Try to re-seat the cartridges in the printer. Open the printer cover > remove the cartridges > close the printer cover > re-brick you printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in, and re-plug after 10 seconds. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and close the cover. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

If that doesn't help, the problem could be due to a clogged print cartridge nozzle. Please follow the steps below to fix print quality issues with your model:

  1. On your computer, go to Start menu.
  2. Go to Programs.
  3. Go to Lexmark 2600 Series folder.
  4. Select Lexmark Solution Center.

From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through to clean the print cartridge nozzles.

After printing the test page, try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

First, make sure the cartridge isn't dry. You may have to get into the Printer Preferences and check to see if the software hasn't been changed to 'black only'.

You could try to remove and reinstall your color cartridge again.Do a Clean Cartridges cycle.Then do an Align Cartridges cycle.

Lexmark printers usually require both cartridges to have ink left in them to continue printing. But try to press the Cancel button for the Alignment process (this is not recommended). Then try to print a document again to verify that you are able to continue printing without an empty color ink.
If that doesn't help, I would suggest you replace your color cartridge with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge.
