What kind of paper are you using?

Normal paper or Photo Glossy paper?

If you use Photo Glossy Paper, you have to put at least two sheets of paper. If you read the photo glossy paper instructions that came in the package you will see it.
The package brings one sheet more than mentioned because of this specification.

error 36 means there is an issue with the head carriage assembly.

it could be a few things.

#1. check the belt
#2. check the encoder strip is properly in the carriage assembly.
#3. problem with head carriage assembly
#4 head carriage unit

these are the most common, there are more.

i suggest you take it to a shop if you are not sure.

This has nothing to do with printer drivers or O/S. It means the print head is not travelling correctly. Did this happen after a paper jam? If so see my previous post:

Check that there is no paper jammed up on each side of where the print head travels.
Easiest way to do this is to power off/on. While the machine is going through its initial startup listen for when the print head travels along its carriage (from right to left). When you hear it, immediately switch off the power.
Open the main body of the printer and hopefully the print head will be stopped midway, you can then check at each end for any jammed paper.
If this does not solve issue, it will require an engineer.

If you are in the UK, call Brother UK tech support on 0870 830 4000. They will arrange a warranty repair, or pass you on to a repair agent if the machine is out of warranty.

Machine Error 36 means just what said, either mechanical problem (not very likely due to age of machine), or loose part. Most often caused by ripped paper or a paper jam which results in a moved/smudged sensor, making the machine alarm.
But since the error can be temporary removed, it should be something loose that gets in the way when the printer head moves. Unfortunately, most likely the solution will be to have it serviced.
The error isn't unique for this model, but is an error used on almost all inkjets from Brother the last 4-5 years. Unless you really can find anything loose (or possibly help cleaning some with compressed air) you will have to send it in.

You can reset the toner cartridges via the printer's menu.

• if an error message appears on the LCD display, press the Cancel (X) button to show the main menu.
• Press the Fax button to make the numeric keypad visible. Then, locate and only locate the Asterisk (Star) button on the numeric keypad. It is important to remember its location as it will not be lit up later when needed.

Try scanning at a lower DPI setting. The machine is only rated to a certain DPI which is how much information it can handle per inch. Lower the DPI the more pixilated an image you get becomes when blown up but unless you are planning on printing 6/4 photos in A3 size then 600-1200 DPI is plenty.

The scanner unit is faulty or the flat harness was not fitted properly to the main board.

Load the envelopes in like paper, tell the printer the size of these to set the paper size, then whatever you're using to print on the envelopes, set up the page size the same size as the envelopes. You should then be able to print on envelopes

for the document you want to print click on print and your printer should show up now just click on the printer and look down where it says use printer offline and click on it again and than it will say use printer online and just print from there ok please dont forget to rate this solution for me

Right-click on the printer in the folder and uncheck the "Use Printer Offline" option to place your printer online and available.

Try universal uninstalling printer, thethen run found new hardware wizard.
