a 2008 built (MFG) PC, Vista is my top guess.(yes?) sure the cause is only 2 things. bad software or bad hardware (the classic computer fact !) so load the drivers from hp.com for your exact PC. there. if fails the HW bad, the pad or the cables to it. in some case the pad may use an internal USB port and that bad. SW or HW. also upgrading any old PC, OS to an OS not supported by HP gets you this too, and more. NO OS told no history of OS told.(upgrades) hp.com is sick today (slug) https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitebook-6930p-notebook-pc/3688868 it came with XP or VISTA new, still doing that? if still that both are infected now, they are virus magnets. if upgrade to w7, then step 2 is get the drivers for W7, if did.

well that is not easy stripping down the whole LCD panel is not for any NOOB? why do that that at all. just buy a web cam and plug it in USB. end this. I can do it but would never , actually after all the newer webcams are vastly better, just like they are on cell phones. evolution and costs less to get the better cam. as old as 2008 PC !! it is, no spring chicken we say. no OS told at all. came with XP or Vista sure. w7 is 2009(OCT) the web cam to buy needs to support your unstated OS. that means not XP, not VISTA relic cams ever. answer #2 , HP does not sell those part then or now. so all parts, bezel, CAM and cable needs to be found USED on Ebay. the HP partsurfer shows all parts needed if you looked there. HP does have full drivers up to W7-64bit on your support page and if running that (are you) make sure the webcam supports w7, as most do not now or for sure not xp or vista not telling your OS makes help SUPER HARD as xp to w7 has no support now for say USB Devices (none or ending soon or NOW) RIP XP./vista/w7

if win10 there is safe mode that turns of fastboot. read that here. when you disable fast boot windows 10 now runs in safemode and boots from, raw files not images. this can cure many W10 OS machines. here is one example of how this works. lets say you have a bad video card driver. then the PC crashes, but the driver bad is in that stinking imgage file ((hiberfil) then the PC boots clean, and you can reload the video drive. I have fastboot off on mine forever, boot speeds do not impress me. 5 seconds is not worth the pain of fastboots. Rule out: Water damage. Rule out, power supply, damage to cord, damage to plug end that fits into the computer power port. Check computers power port for bent female contacts. Battery can also be a problem. Some laptops will not function if the battery has lost charge or is dead. If none of the above, a CPU going bad or hard drive dying, will also cause the computer to fail when energizing. Vest you have a computer technician look this over.

windows 7? why not first tell us the OS, what words are in the crashed BSOD page. let me guess, Fn+F4 and not F4 the former is turning on the external VGA jack , doing that? i do not have enough facts presented by you to guess. or show tests. tell me: 1: is the RTC coin cell bad? 2: did you upgrade this from w7 to w10 with no support from HP? 3: did you test it with the bad main battery left out first, on AC power only this be like first a 5min job or less, falling off the log easy.? 4: did the external screen work, ? my guess Fn+F4 5: turn off sleep and hibernate in control panel , + power run ok now? with all that off? be super good if yes, now you can use it now, and later fix all the missing HP drivers later. you know , right the driver are a 3 way match !? match HP model. match OS and match the chip not working exactly and these laptops are sold with like over 20 motherboard different chips on them all GPU CPU sound NIC Wifi and ill stop here there is more,, on topic of options now I will tell you what you did wrong. 1: not asking HP for help, sorry Fixya is not HP not in the least. 2: not posting your full service tag data. so the poor help has a clue what you bought new. (south of the boarder) test with no battery then with correct power pack (the charger is a chip inside the pc and in this 19vdc pack its only a power pack pure DC. then try a new battery , if you read your service manual at HP.com it tells you all packs used and why, and the match. sure does. and varies by OPTIONS DAY1. in all case unless upgraded like mine, is, and sucks max amps mine does.

Yes it does, you will need a VGA cable running from the laptop to the TV...Assuming your TV also has a VGA connection. if you TV does not you can use an adapter. Hope this helps, Thanks and please rate:) Gary

Try connecting it to an external monitor if possible. You can use the VGA connector on your laptop to connect it to the Monitor. restart the laptop and see if it comes up on the external monitor. If it does show on the external monitor, It's probably the laptop screen going bad. and they ain't cheap. here's a link to a screen on Amazon, just to give you an idea... the WiFi switch is actually on the touch-sensitive strip above the keyboard. If it stays orange, you may need to go to the HP site and download the WiFi driver

Take a boot-able genuine XP CD and put the CD in your system while its going to be restarted. Choose the boot order sequence as boot from CD. Choosing of boot order may varies from laptop to laptop, in some of the lappies it is possible by clicking F1 /F8 /F10. After starting the installation procedure it will ask for the partitions. Divide partitions as per your requirement but allocate minimum 50 GB HDD for C drive accordingly software(s) to be loaded. Its very easy later on steps....... just do next...next....next.... Choose proper time and location (your respective country) and complete the installation by entering a genuine key for OS. Enjoy with lappi there after............ :)

It sounds like windows update may have changed your driver to a generic one. Download and install the driver again from the HP link for your model laptop here HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook PC

I had a similar problem--I had to disable the ambient light sensor to fix the problem: fn-f11. Now it's as bright as I need it to be.

I don't believe that the problem is something as simple as an exhausted battery because in this case your laptop should detect a battery with 0% of charge. Read first this tutorial:

If it starts when plugged in you can eliminate an AC adapter fault.Make sure the battery is locked in place.If it still won't charge it needs to be replaced.

goto your my computer icon double click on it and you should see the new hdd icon just right click on it and you format it that way. mind you if its the master hdd it may not let you. or is it a second hdd? or if its new you should not have to format it. if you could, could you give me more info please.
