Your black printhead is blocked.
The printhead is deep inside the printer and has to be taken out by the expert and cleaned with the help of 'steam' and hot water. This is because not using the printer for a long time. or using low grade refill inks.
Please select new cartridge only if you are inserting a new cartridge or fully refilled cartridge. Otherwise use old cartridge option. Brother printer has a mechanical sensor and not the electronic chip in the ink cartridges.
After inserting the old used cartridge if you choose 'new cart' option it will show the "Full" ink. You can still print from the exhausted ink cart after covering the sensor in the middle by a piece of paper in emergency.

HiCheck the cartridges installations.Clear any print queues.Disconnect the machine completely from power and from the PC.Leave it for one hour and then connect it again.

I have run a CIS system on my epson cx4450 for over three years with no issues at all

It was not designed for CIS (constant ink systems) but there was a kit available and I have never looked back

The savings alone in ink have paid for themselves and a new printer many times over should I need one

Error 46 on Brother printers The printer must be reset:

• Press menu then*2864 within 2 seconds and press 80.
• Keep pressing black/mono start button until screen displays 'purge count'.
• Press 2783 to reset purge count.
• Press stop/exit key
• Press 99
• The printer should return to normal

OR Resetting purge counter:

1) Enter machine maintenance mode (on MFC210C all four photo/copy/fax/scan lights flash in maintenance mode). Care is needed in maintenance mode, otherwise critical settings may be inadvertently corrupted.

FAX models with numerical keypads: Press the Menu/Set, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 keys within two seconds. (if you fail to complete the correct key sequence within two seconds, press the Stop key to try again).

Other (non-FAX) models: Press the Menu/Set and Black Start keys. Next press the "up arrow" key four times to enter the maintenance mode).

2) Press the 8 then 0 keys in the initial stage of the maintenance mode to call up the machine's log information list (function code 80).

3) Press the Black Start key several times to scroll through the log information list to reach the purge counter. The purge counter is the 25th item in the list.

4) Press the 2, 7, 8, and 3 keys in this order to reset the purge count to zero.

5) Press the Stop/Exit key to return to the initial stage of the maintenance mode.

6) Press the 9 key twice to return to the standby state.

try to clean the print head 2-3 times,if the problem persist chage the print head

Fault is not mentioned and details are required for any solution. If the printer is showing errors, please uninstall and reinstall the drivers before the printer can be connected once again.
